HTC’s newest upcoming smartphone has leaked once again, just days prior to its expected reveal date.
We first saw the A9 (codename Aero) back in late August. Then, as now, it was Steve Hemmerstoffer who was the one to obtain images of the upcoming Android smartphone. At the time, many onlookers, including those of us here at MobileSyrup, noted the A9’s resemblance to Apple’s current line of smartphones. That uncanny likeness is even more pronounced in this latest leak.
That said, HTC — and the company’s previous design chief, Scott Croyle — helped pioneer and popularize the design and manufacture of unibody metal smartphones, so if there’s a company that gets a free pass for riffing on the design language of one of its competitors, it’s HTC.
The variant featured in these images is the Carbon Grey one. Based on a previously leaked image, the A9 is expected to ship in six different colours. The other five colours are Acid Gold, Opal Silver, Deep Garnet, Rose Gold and Cast Iron.
When the A9 initially leaked, it was speculated it would be one of the first phones to feature MediaTek’s upcoming Helio X20 SoC. Announced back in May, the X20 is the first smartphone system-on-a-chip to feature a 10 core processor. Generally, MediaTek-equipped smartphones do not make their way to North America, so it’s been reasoned that a North American variant of the A9 will instead ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 or 620.
In terms of other specs, the A9 is reportedly set to include a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization, a 2150mAh battery and a front fingerprint sensor.
Expect to the A9 to be announced soon. HTC has already said it intends to unveil the next model in its One family of smartphones on October 20.
