Drake, Bieber, #BatFlip and Norm propelled Canadian Twitter worldwide in 2015

The year isn’t over, but it’s safe to say we know which Canadians had the most social media game in the past 12 months.

In fact, three of Canada’s best Tweeters were recognized worldwide, and continue to amass huge audiences. The top, Justin Bieber, has over 71 million followers, the second person ever to do so after Katy Perry. Drake, representing Toronto wherever he can, passed 25 million followers this year.

Toronto’s former deputy mayor and Tweeter extraordinaire, Norm Kelly, aka ‘Toronto’s Dad’, now has over 213,000 followers, and some of Canada’s most-retweeted posts, including this one about Drake’s beef with fellow rapper, Meek Mill.

Popular hashtags over the year included #cdnpoli, especially around #elxn42, as well as #BellLetsTalk, #ComeTogether and, of course #BlueJays.

Finally, newly-elected Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau passed one million followers alongside TSN’s Bob McKenzie and popular Canadian publications Globe and Mail and Rogers-owned broadcaster CP24.

And then there’s @MobileSyrup, trucking along at just over 69,000 followers. We may not be Toronto’s Dad, but we like to think of ourselves as Canada’s techy best friend.
