LG is reportedly planning to launch G6 Pro and Plus variants by end of June

LG reportedly has plans to launch new Pro and Plus variants of its flagship G6 smartphone by the end of June.

The news stems from South Korean news site etnews, though the website doesn’t attribute a specific source to the leak. According to Android Authority, which translated the news, the LG G6 Plus is similar to the original LG G6, but features wireless charging capabilities and 128GB of storage. Pricing comes to 999,000 won, which comes to about $800 USD ($1081 CAD).  In comparison, the G6 is priced at $999 CAD outright in Canada.

The Pro version of the phone, however, features 32GB of storage and is priced at 790,000 won — approximately $700 USD ($945 CAD). Most of the phone’s specs are the same as the original LG G6 as well as the G6 Pro, according to Android Authority, including come equipped with a Snapdragon 821 processor, along with the same resolution display and RAM as the standard G6.

Unfortunately, it seems like the smartphone will not include the newer Snapdragon 835 that is featured in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ like some may have guessed.

If these rumours turn out to be true, the release of the G6 Pro and G6 Plus mark the first time LG has released multiple iterations of one of its flagship device. Still, it’s strange that the two new versions of the device are named differently when the device’s features are so similar.

The smartphones are expected to be released at the end of June in South Korea, with broader global availability following later this year.
