As an extension of its gaming partnership with Unity announced back in August, Facebook has revealed Gameroom, a desktop app that looks a lot like the 2009 version of Steam, but designed for Facebook games built for its app ecosystem.
Right now games on the service can’t be larger than 200mb, though the company is apparently considering adding some titles that are up to 500mb on a case-by-case basis. This means large games will never hit the platform, though something like Desert Golf’s 1mb size fits these stringent parameters.
Apps available on the platform include Words With Friends, Trivia Crack and Peter Molyneux’s Curiosity. It’s possible that in the future Gameroom could have ties to Facebook’s Oculus VR platform or perhaps its still in development mixed reality headset.
