After some brief speculation, the benchmarks are in: both the recently revealed iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro feature 2GB of RAM.
In the case of the iPhone SE, this should not be a surprise given Apple is marketing the device as an iPhone 5s with the internals of an iPhone 6s. When it comes to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, however, this move is a little more interesting given the 12.9-inch iteration of the iPad Pro comes equipped with 4GB of RAM.
Furthermore, according to TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino, one of the first people to run a benchmark on both devices, the iPhone SE is not underclocked like the iPhone 6s.
The SE’s A9 processor runs at 1.85GHz, and earned a Geekbench single-core score of 2538 and a multi-core score of 4421, indicating the phone is actually slightly more powerful than the iPhone 6s.
It’s unclear how the 9.7-inch iPad Pro’s smaller RAM allocation affects the tablet’s performance given it needs to push fewer pixels than its larger sibling. In our tests, the tablet seems able to multitask between high-end apps just as proficiently as the 13-inch iPad Pro, though more testing is definitely required.
We’ll have a full reviews of the iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro on MobileSyrup soon.
