Instagram has unveiled a new standalone collage app for iOS today called Layout.
Formalizing the relationship its users have to multi-photo pictures, Instagram has created a way for its 300+ million users to combine up to four photos into the traditional square frame using a variety of tools and filters.
Users can drag and drop photos in a series of layouts, filter existing photos to select only those with faces, and flip or rotate images to get alignments just right.
Instagram also wants users to take photos within the app with a feature called Photo Booth. Using a timer, Photo Booth takes a series of photos from either the front or rear camera that can be arranged in a collage.
Layout for Instagram debuts today for iOS, but the company is working on making an Android version available in the coming months. This is Instagram’s second standalone app after the release of Hyperlapse in October.
