Fitbit’s Surge wearable will track cycling-related stats next month

Fitbit Surge

Fitbit users will soon be able to track their morning bike commute.

The San Francisco-based company announced today that it will be adding outdoor bike-tracking to its Fitbit Surge wearable. This update will allow cyclists to track and see stats like distance travel, time spent cycling, average speed, heart rate and calories burned in real-time, as well as post workouts on the company’s online portal.

This adds to the growing number of activities the Surge can track—including biking, the band can now track activities like running, hiking, weightlifting as well as yoga.

“Our users are passionate about fitness and have consistently requested a way to track their outdoor cycling activity, said Tim Roberts, the company’s vice president of interactive, in a press release. “Our goal is to provide users with the tools it takes to track their exercise and reward them for doing the activities they love to do most – like biking and running.”

The company also announced that today it has added multi-tracker support to its platform. Fitbit users are now able to pair up to six of the company’s devices and its MobileTrack iOS app to a single Fitbit account. The only limitation here is that only one of each Fitbit different model can be paired at any given time.

According to the company, the bike-tracking update will be pushed to North American Surge devices next month.
