HTC starts rolling out Android Oreo to unlocked U11 Life smartphones

After updating the U11 to Android Oreo earlier in the week, HTC is back with yet another 8.0 update for one its devices.

This time around, the company’s vice-president of product management, Mo Versi, says Android Oreo is available to download to unlocked U11 Life units starting today, Thursday, November 30th, 2017.

HTC released the U11 Life earlier this month. The mid-range handset is available to purchase directly through the manufacturer’s website for $449 CAD. The U11 Life features a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 630 chipset, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and a 2,600mAh battery.

Oreo adds a number of small, but much-appreciated improvements to Android. One of my favourites is a Settings menu option that allows the phone to turn on Wi-Fi automatically when it sees that it’s near a saved Wi-Fi network. Another great feature is new autofill API that makes using password managers like 1Password even more convenient.

If you own an HTC U11 Life and haven’t seen a notification prompting you to update, open Android’s setting menu, scroll down to “About phone” and tap on the “System update” sub-heading.
