Virtual reality is becoming more and more mainstream as the technology required to power it gets better and cheaper. With Samsung’s Gear VR, the hardware is as simple as a headset and a recent Galaxy smartphone. As we have seen at recent events like CES and Mobile World Congress, commonplace VR entertainment is in our future.
This week, Samsung is bringing that future one step closer, in a partnership with Six Flags Entertainment. La Ronde, among a few other theme parks, will have some of their most popular roller coasters fitted with optional Gear VR headsets that will plant riders in a realistic 360-degree world.
At La Ronde, the Goliath coaster’s VR adventure will incorporate drops, twists and turns into an action-packed, futuristic alien invasion story where the rider is piloting a fighter jet. The ride and virtual experience will all be available at no extra charge to park visitors.
La Ronde is one of nine parks that will be getting VR roller coasters this year, as Samsung becomes the “Official Technology Partner” of Six Flags.
