Not content with a massive MWC press conference, a new flagship smartphone, a fitness band, and a VR headset, HTC has promised us another “huge announcement” for later this month. There’s been some speculation that this announcement will be the One M9 Plus, a larger, phablet-style version of the One M9.
However, word of another HTC One device is making the rounds now and it’s possible we’ll see an official announcement before the end of the month. This device is called the One E9 but unlike the polycarbonate E8 from last year the E9 will also feature a metal construction and a flatter back. Not only that, but it will apparently be different on the inside, too.
Engadget points to Upleaks, which has the E9 pegged for a 2GHz MediaTek processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 5.5-inch display. It seems the phone will have the same 20MP rear-facing camera and 4MP UltraPixel camera that we’ve already seen in the One M9. Available in white and rose gold, metallic grey, or brown gold, Upleaks writes that the device will have a small battery and will launch end of March. The photo you see above comes from China’s certification authority TENAA. It describes a 5.5-inch phone called the HTC One E9.
The E8 didn’t enjoy a very widespread release and it didn’t make it as far as Canada. We don’t know if we’d classify the unveiling of a phone that will likely only enjoy limited availability as “huge” but we’ll have to wait and see.
