Report: 12.3% of Canadian wireless subscribers use mobile banking

Mobile banking in Canada is slowly gaining popularity, one recent survey noted that 38% of smartphone owners use a banking app. comScore has released some additional stats regarding the select few Canadians who use their mobile device to perform various banking functions.

Based on their March 2011 stats comScore says that 12.3% of Canadian mobile subscribers have accessed banking, credit card, insurance or brokerage account information from their device. To put this number in perspective, the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) announced in April that the wireless subscriber base in Canada was just over 24.5 million, so according to these stats about 3,013,500 people are using mobile banking. 77.5% of mobile banking users are from smartphones, with Apple clocking in at 43.2%, followed RIM 22.2% and Google at 5.1%. The TD Bank app captures the most market share with 26.7% of users, coming in a close second is RBC with 25.7%.
