The end of December usually means at least some time off work, likely combined with a number of work and family Christmas parties. In the coming weeks, for these events, many of us will be looking for music playlists that don’t require much thought. Songza (now built in to Google Play Music) and Apple Music contain mood-based playlists for any occasion, and now Spotify is looking to up their party game.
With Spotify Party, the music streaming service is adding a section of curated playlists, starting with its iOS and Android apps. There are sets of playlists for events like dinner parties, dancing, or calming things down as an event wraps up.
In addition, users will be able to manually change the tempo or mood of a playlist though a new “mood tuner,” that allows users to tweak playlists to their liking. Not only that, but would-be DJs can also add songs and move things around easily as well.
Features like Party are also very useful for music discovery, especially for people who don’t have the time or energy to search for new music themselves. This is the second push from Spotify to curate playlists specifically based on moods, after Spotify Running debuted on the platform earlier this year.
You can download the app now on iOS and Android. Party will be debuting today on mobile platforms with a 120-track playlist from Diplo that includes exclusive content.
