Instagram has added a couple of new features to its Android app today (APK Mirror), with a similar update coming to iOS in the coming days.
After introducing advanced editing tools to both platforms in December, Instagram has outfitted its apps with two new sliders: Colour, and Fade.
Colour allows users to add one of eight colours to light or dark areas of the photo, delineated between Shadows and Highlights toggles. The effect is quite stark, and won’t be for every photo, but the way it plays with distinct colours – the bright blue of a sky, or the deep orange of a sunset – is interesting.
Similarly, the Fade tool “softens colours,” according to Instagram, giving photos an organic retro feel. Again, it won’t work for every photo, but it creates a certain mood.
Finally, Instagram has added an excellent tool, Account Notifications, so favourite posters can be singled out among the deluge of content hosted on Instagram.
Instagram has been slowly improving its Android app over the past few months, boosting photo quality and adding small design flourishes.
