Path has announced an update to its Path Talk application that brings the ability to interact with local businesses via messaging.
Announced earlier this summer, Path Talk allows Path users to message their friends. With this version 1.1 update, a new feature called Places allows you to send text messages to local businesses. Kind of.
With Places, you won’t actually be interacting with your hairdresser or your favourite Italian restaurant. Instead, you’ll be texting Path. Once your request has been received, an agent will do the leg work for you by calling the business with your query or request. That Path Agent will text you back once they have an answer to your question.
Path imagines customers texting businesses to ask about opening hours, availability of sizing or a certain product, or for specific appointments. The purpose of Places is to eliminate time spent on hold or hunting for contact details for a specific business. You just submit your request and get on with your life while Path takes care of the rest.
This new feature comes via Path’s acquisition of TalkTo. The company hasn’t said how many agents it has on board to field user requests but the team is global and works 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Engadget reports that users can expect an answer within five minutes.
Path Talk Places is available today for both Android and iOS in the U.S. and Canada.
