Boomerang for Android is a companion app to the company’s desktop Gmail extension, allowing users to perform “triage” on their incoming mail. Using a gesture system, it’s easy to archive or delete your email, much like the official Gmail app, but its feature set goes further than that. Using an opposing gesture, Boomerang can be set to remind you to action an email in an hour, later today, tomorrow or vaguely “in the future,” depending on how long it typically takes you to email someone back.
In its most recent update, Boomerang has added two important user-facing features that should make it possible to fully replace Gmail for Android as a user’s go-to mail client. The company has added push notifications for incoming emails, and now allows users to set a “send-as” alias.
Boomerang is a free download and is well worth trying, especially if you’re not especially enthused about Gmail’s latest revamp.
