Every mobile manufacturer is launching a tablet these days and trying to earn a piece of the market. Recently IDC Canada put out their prediction that there will be “just shy of 1.5 million” tablets sold by the end of 2011. Our tech pride and joy Research In Motion has been heavily promoting the PlayBook for months and many rumours have surfaced about the go-to-market price point. Recently a market survey conducted by RIM was all about tablet price points. They asked participants the following questions:
– At what price would you consider the tablet to be too expensive and you would not consider purchasing it?
– At what price would you consider the tablet to be getting inexpensive and you would consider it to be a bargain?
– And finally, at what price would you consider the tablet to be so inexpensive that you would doubt its quality and would not consider purchasing it?
The PlayBook is expected to be available within the next couple months and from reading those questions they are still trying to find out the right price to launch at. Rumours are that the PlayBook will come in around $500 no-contract.
