Rogers registers M City trademark, could be possible real estate development project

Rogers has its hand in many markets in Canada, specifically communications, media, and entertainment. If the latest trademark filing is true, Rogers could very well be stepping into the real estate market, too.

A filing by Rogers Real Estate Development Limited, which is located at the head office of Rogers Communications on the 10th floor of 333 Bloor Street East in Toronto, reveals the trademark of “M City” and the associated logo.

According to the filing, Rogers says M City falls under the following services:

“Real estate development; real estate development of residential subdivisions; real estate development of residential housing, townhomes, condominiums; real estate development of commercial properties; building construction services; residential building construction services; design, construction and sale of condominiums, residential homes, houses, townhomes; building construction of residential housing, townhomes and condominiums; commercial building construction services; construction of commercial premises; construction of residential and commercial properties; construction services, namely, planning, laying out and custom construction of residential and commercial communities.”

The logo will have an assortment of colours with the Rogers red very prominent. The description notes, “The first section of the ‘M’ is red, the second portion of the ‘M’ is medium green, the third portion of the ‘M’ is dark green, the fourth portion of the ‘M’ is light green, and the fifth portion of the ‘M’ is orange. The word ‘CITY’ is red.”

While there is no indication as to what Rogers has in mind. It could be a hint to turn some of its real estate surrounding its head offices into income properties.

Wireless competitor Telus recently went this route with its Telus Garden in Vancouver, which showcases its head office, rental of office space, and 420 condos called Telus Garden Residences.
