Windows 10 is currently a work in progress, but at today’s press conference in Redmond, Microsoft is showing off a bunch of new features for the new operating system across PCs, tablets and smartphones.
Along with expandable notifications that will allow users to reply to messages directly from the Action Center, Microsoft is working on rolling out IP-based messaging detection within the OS itself. Like iMessage, if two user have registered their phone numbers with Skype, the OS will detect that and automatically switch over to that form of communication. And while the company didn’t commit to open-sourcing the code, product manager Joe Belfiore hinted that it may be opened up to more services in the future.
There’s no word when Windows 10 will roll out to existing devices, but Belfiore demoed the new build on a Nokia Lumia 1520.
