AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder is now available in Canada

Shudder, AMC’s horror streaming service, has launched in Canada.

Shudder debuted in the U.S. back in the summer 2015 and started its international roll out recently, with Canada reportedly the platform’s first launch region. The service hopes to grab a niche, horror-focused audience, among competitors like CraveTV, Netflix and the soon-to-be-dead Shomi.

“Shudder is the only streaming service in Canada dedicated to serving both the casual and hardcore fans of horror and suspense-filled entertainment. It offers new premieres and exclusives each month, and with 85 percent percent of its 200+ launch selection of horror, mystery, suspense, supernatural and dark thrillers not currently available on any of the big Canadian SVOD platforms Shudder is a truly unique experience,” reads the app’s press release.

The platform says it’s launching with over 200 films and that content is organized into specific sub-genres like vampires, zombies, cannibals, gore, even like high school horror films. Movies on Shudder include classics like Nosferatu and House of the Living Dead, as well as more recent released such as Let The Right One In and Planet Terror.

Exclusive content includes Beyond the Walls and Therapy. Shudder also says that it’s bringing on curators, Colin Geddes, TIFF Midnight Madness programmer and former Fangoria editor Sam Zimmerman to curate the platform.

While it’s important to keep in mind that the app just launched, some users are reporting issues related to searching for content, as well as general instability.

Pricing comes in at $4.99 a month and $49.99 for the year.

Shudder is available on iOS, Android and Desktop.
