LG has apparently confirmed that its G3 smartphone will get Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of this year. The G3 was unveiled and launched in Korea in late May. It arrived in Canada on August 1st.
GSMArena points to Dutch website TechTastic, which claims it received confirmation from LG directly that the device would receive the latest Android update at some point in 2014. Though we don’t have anything more specific about the timing of the release, the G3 will likely be the first G3 device to get the Lollipop update.
Though we already know that Sony’s entire Xperia Z line will be getting Lollipop, the as-yet-unreleased Xperia Z3 will not be updated until early next year. nexus 6 manufacturer Motorola has also revealed that the Moto X , the Moto G, Moto, E and several of its other devices will receive updates to Lollipop but the company hasn’t said anything about timing.
Android 5.0 was first unveiled at Google I/O and was formally announced in mid-October. It launched in November with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 and will features improved performance control, better notification control, new camera software, improved battery performance, and support for 64-bit apps.
