Telus-owned Public Mobile launched a new $49/100GB 4G plan with Canada/U.S. usage.
The new plan seems like a decent offer overall, though I’m not sure I’d go for it myself. The plan includes 100GB of 4G data, with speeds capped at up to 100Mbps. Along with that, it includes Canada/U.S. usage and 1,000 monthly long-distance minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K.
It also includes unlimited Canada/U.S. calling and unlimited international texting.
Overall, it’s a decent offer if you need a ton of data and don’t mind the speed cap. However, I’m not sure how many people really need 100GB of data per month — I certainly don’t. I think Public’s $45/65GB Canada/U.S. 5G plan (250Mbps) is a better option and it includes the same bonus long distance minutes.
There’s also Public’s recently-extended $36/50GB Canada/U.S. 5G plan which, while not as good as previous versions, is still much cheaper than the $49 plan. I think it’s also a better option unless you need that 100GB of monthly data. Public’s other plans haven’t changed.
To get that much data elsewhere, you’d be looking at $55 with Freedom Mobile (which includes Canada/U.S./Mexico usage), or $65/mo with the Big Three for a Canada-only version.
You can check out Public’s plan here, but before you commit to it, keep in mind that Black Friday deals are just around the corner. I don’t know if Public will have a better plan than this, but I’ll be waiting until Black Friday to switch.
