Samsung Canada to give Galaxy Note owners $200 incentive to upgrade to the Note 8

Comments

  • bigshynepo

They should cut owners of the Note7 a check to spend however they see fit.
Did owners get anything but a replacement for all the hassle associated with that explosive debacle?

    • southerndinner

It’s a prepaid gift card. You *can* spend it however you see fit unless you prefer to buy things from places that are cash only.

    • It’s Me

I think he meant without having to also buy a new Note. Just a gift for the hazard.

    • southerndinner

That’s a ridiculous demand if so

    • It’s Me

Maybe. Customers are funny. Mess up their order and they want a discount. Deliver bombs into their homes and dishonestly try to bury it with an exchange program that replaced them with more bombs before finally doing a recall and they want a gift card.
      /s

Guess it depends on perspective and personality. Personally, I figure if it didn’t burn your house down or disfigure you and the kids , then count yourself lucky, ship it back in the hazmat box and forget about it.

    • bigshynepo

That info was not included at the time the article was published and mobile syrup doesn’t put updated timestamps when they add something. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, this is better than nothing.

    • Kalie Fong

I got nothing but stuck with a more expensive plan due to contract… and i wasn’t qualify for this $200 because they said i didn’t register and the whatever $100 credit that they had for note 7 when you do the replacement.

    • icyhotonmynuts

Yes, they had better pre order bonuses. Depending on region or carrier the “best” pre order bonus was the gear fit2,imho. Others for a dock, a memory card or a crappy pseudo vr glasses. They did cut note 7 owners checks… for $25.

Note 7 owners also got to keep their pre order stuff, along with all accessories that shipped with the phone. 2 chargers, 2 cables, 2 sets of the micro usb to usb c. May not seem much, but it’s something.

  • h2oflyer

    About time.

  • ToniCipriani ✓pǝᴉɟᴉɹǝʌ

“Qualifying owners of all active Note devices including current **Note 8** and former Note 7 owners will be eligible for this Upgrade Offer.”

…wait, what? Upgrade Note 8 to Note 8?

    • It’s Me

Maybe they’re apologizing preemptively for the 8?
      😀

But I think it just means that you have to be both.

  • ToniCipriani ✓pǝᴉɟᴉɹǝʌ

Also in the signup process, it doesn’t seem to indicate whether buying an unlocked Note 8 is eligible, just asks to select a carrier.

  • gremlin0007

    Where do you select “opt-in”??

  • anonymous

Entering purchase date gives error message. Have entered note 8 purchase date.

  • gremlin0007

Putting IMEI in gives error… classic Samsung keeps taking us in circles…

    • johny

they are hoping people give up and don’t register

    • SycloneRob

Yup I gave up and simply got a pixel. Thank you samesung for showing me that there is auch better experience in software and phone. I would never buy another samesung phone. No matter howanu gimmicks it has.

    • gremlin0007

Tried again tonight and got it to work

  • ksoze

Sigh… why can’t you just enter in the IMEI code and register that way… Forcing ppl to have enabled Opt-In for marketing notifications is just plain evil….

Gremlin007 – I think this is during the first setup when you reset/power on the phone.

No point trying to find it now though – since it says you have to “Opt-in” prior to today.

Wow.. just wow Samsung – this whole promotion is just going to cause massive confusion – if you read the FAQs – “What does Active Note device mean?” – it states that the note device must receive Canadian Carrier network communication during Sept 2017 – kind of hard if the Note 7 has been recalled.

    • ToniCipriani ✓pǝᴉɟᴉɹǝʌ

If you sign into the claim process though, it would appear this promo has been running for some time. It states the purchase period started since 9/15.

It also says Note 7 owners have until Nov 9 to fulfill that Samsung Marketing requirement… but how, when you already sent the device back?

    • John Lofwire

      Shamesung! lol

  • Salinger

If I’m reading this correctly, ANYONE who is a Note 8 user gets the $200. This appears to be a Note 8 promotion, not an actual incentive to make up for the Note 7 debacle. As well, it’s not “save $200 off the Note 8”, it’s actually pay full price for the Note 8 and in a couple of months (knowing Samsung, more like 3 or 4) they’ll send you a prepaid Mastercard.

Not to mention the fact that anyone who was waiting to hear the Note 7 offer before making a purchase decision (that’s finally come more than a month after the phone’s release) will have missed out on the $258 in pre-order gifts. Samsung Customer Service; what an oxymoron.

    • Yorgo82

      its an incentive
Eligible Note users can register here for a $200 Samsung Canada Prepaid Mastercard when upgrading to the all-new Samsung Galaxy Note8, beginning today until Nov 9, 2017 at 11:59 pm EST.

Qualifying owners of all active Note devices including current Note8 and former Note7 owners will be eligible for this Upgrade Offer. Additional qualifying criteria requires that prior to Oct 17, 2017 owners have registered a previous Note device with Samsung, created a Samsung Account and selected ‘opt-in’ to receive promotional communications. Former Note7 owners will be given until the Nov 9, 2017 deadline to meet these qualifying conditions.

For Note8 Upgrade Offer full terms and conditions see link below.

To start the registration process please enter your Note8 purchase date from receipt and follow the prompts through completion. Customers experiencing registration difficulties should call 1-844-628-7924.

    • Goran Mihajlović

Just tried calling. It goes to their rebate centre and they said they do not handle that and to call the regular Samsung Canada number at 1-800-726-7864

    • Yorgo82

they cant even do it manually they offered a call back not before 36h so this means if lucky they will start on friday

    • Kalie Fong

it’s going round and round. Samsung for sure treat loyal customers REALLLLLY nice… so far we have no success with this $200

    • Goran Mihajlović

They actually directed me to a 1-866 number which eventually transferred me back to 1-800 which took my name and number and said 28-48 hours. I guess it will just have to wait until then…wow.

  • gremlin0007

So…has anyone been able to sign up for this yet?

    • TONY EL ACHKAR

Yes just now and it work just i have problem with IMEI but i try copy paste and it work

    • anonymous

Did you buy the phone from samsung website ?

    • TONY EL ACHKAR

      Yes

    • gremlin0007

Worked for me last night. Guess their system wasn’t ready when they launched it. Bought my phone from Rogers.

  • Lin

So how does someone who already ordered and received their Note 8 apply for this.

    • icyhotonmynuts

My friend was told to wait 24-48h because their preorder purchase date is”outside”the possible purchase dates… And their techs are aware of the bug and are working for solution.

  • Fodder0f4

Hmmm…say my IMEI number isn’t valid. Can’t click on continue after putting the data in.

Note 8 owner since September 15th. Sent an email to them for support. Might try a phone call tomorrow.

    • Blair Davis

Try live chat. I got my response right away

  • Lin

The online webchat just told me I don’t qualify because I ordered my phone outside of the specified dates.

    • Kalie Fong

I was told I’m not qualify because my note 7 was not registered with a samsung account, my friend wasn’t qualify as well because his note 7 was registered with his previous samsung account and for some reason, his samsung account didn’t work then he had to create a new one for his note8. then they said he doesn’t qualify because they were not registered in the same account

    • Sean A

Same thing happened with me. I bought a Note 7 last year, and a S8 for my wife this year. Sometime in late August-ish, my samsung store account got blown away.

Guess I am buying from another country. Shame Samsung [the manufacturer] is stuck with such a crappy parts reseller [Samsung Canada].

  • Dimitri

Daniel: It seems that our website its going through some updates for this particular offer. please contact us back within the next 24-48 hours, I hope you can understand the situation.

18:20:32 : Daniel: Is there anything else that I can assist you with today.

This is what i got from live chat.

    • It’s Me

      Helpful?

    • Dimitri

No. Useless to be honest. Everyone is getting different answers.

  • Kalie Fong

So my frd called and agent said :”if u did not get an email that means u are not qualitify to receive this promotion” my friend: “well how do you qualify to receive the email?” agent:”Agent: Sir i am not sure how you can be qualify but all i know is that you are not qualify” my friend:”So you are saying even if i bought the phone and didnt get the email i wont be qualify…” agent:”yes”….

  • Do Do

LMFAO, Samsung can’t even get this right. Complete joke.

    • Yorgo82

at least they are doing something. while others they wont, as :
LG their motherboard famous issues and phone boot loops since the first LG optimus till today
Motoral and Glue issue since Razr xt910
Apple ( battery , screen the camera that it was recalled ) they offerred nothing, or the 3g 3gs and iphone 4 wall charger that it takes fire ( they just sent a message nothing more )
      or the Nexus bootloader issue
and the list goes on and on

I m not a fan of any company i buy what i feel like it each 6 months ( and i pay full price for my phones )
I speak using the logic no one is paying me to use their product

    • Do Do

Your criticisms of the others may be true, but “doing something” wrong, isn’t anything they should praised for. When most people do something wrong I’m sure people let them know about it.

This was simple, they made a statement about Note 7 users getting a rebate. The rebate should have been the same one the U.S. customers got. At minimum, this is disrespectful to Canadians who bought the Note 7. Samsung screwed that up. Now they’re sticking it to who gets what and people Samsung said should be getting this new rebate are being denied. So, as far as I’m concerned, they’re looking worse than if they didn’t do anything at all.

Read what some of the people just in this article are stating, let alone around the net, Samsung dropped the ball, again.

    • Yorgo82

For sure I’m wishing more like any human. And that’s my I placed a complain (jusque cause I found it disrespectful they putted us in the same boat as the others(none-note7 users) and the person contacted me twice to find an arrangement and he’s still negotiating.
but I don’t go to a point to say they are a joke and they haven’t done anything while personally ive had prob with all the names that I have mentioned earlier and they said nothing can be done.
Plus only by admitting that it was a prob legally they did their part.

And yeah the ball play they are top one their keywords
      ( Soon, 24h and 36h etc. And the I transfer you )
      Apple would’ve said noooooo
      LG rudely would’ve said I can’t help.

But still 200$ + their stupid gifts is not bad ( I have 13 free 128 SD card lol 9 of them are still sealed) each time I buy their phone I get one free I’m fed up haha. But again gifts.
      I would prefer the Dex.

  • Yves Bénard

Before anything you need that special unique code that they will give you at 1-866-888-5581

    • Macoun

Hey Yves – I called the 1-866 number and they said that the unique codes are only provided via promotional emails. Can you confirm if they gave you a unique code over the phone, or if you received it through an email?

    • jamesbond00769

Nope I was not able to get any code from them finally! Bullcrap! Anyway,, i have to struggle with Samsung Canada Chat support and they finally escalated my case to their email team. I had to provide them with my proof of purchase of the Note 7 from last year. Unique code should follow by email soon I was told.

    • Macoun

Thanks JB – I went the chat route and had it escalated as well, no pics requested though. We’ll see where it goes.

  • Fodder0f4

Hopped on late last night to try it out again, and got past the IMEI requirement, but didn’t have my proof of purchase on me. LOL

Tried again this morning and everything went through without a problem. I had previously got the email about the offer, with my code, but for some reason, it just didn’t accept the IMEI yesterday afternoon.

    Oh well.

  • Jason Yuen

Just submitted mine and got a tracking # for future reference. I logged into my samsung account and opted in for email updates and almost immediately I got the email with the unique code. It requires proof of purchase in the form of a photo of your receipt.

  • Richie_Peterson

Well all set to go. Hopefully we will all get the refund/incentive to upgrade discount before Xmas.
Kind of disappointed its a prepaid visa but hey, its sort of money back in the pocket if you use it for Xmas gifts or something you were going to buy anyways.

  • Jean Racine

The criteria about promotional email opt-in is stupid. Im a Note 4 owner and i should be part of this promotion.

    • Daniel Schrepf

      I’m in the same spot…

  • Jas Kamoh

Does this promo apply to carrier upgrade or only if you buy outright on Samsung website?

    • Xavier Arias Camacho

It applies to upgrade via carrier too.

    • Mike Reid

      Not to bell it doesnt

    • Yorgo82

it does my friend did it. carriers does not has the infos as its not their business not even their credit and they dont care if you get it or no.

  • alphaswift

    I have a Note 3 in a drawer somewhere. Can I have $200?

    • Goldfinch

qualifying criteria requires that prior to Oct 17th, 2017 owners have registered a previous Note device with Samsung, created a Samsung Account and selected ‘opt-in’ to receive promotional communications.

  • Zac Monchamp

I got the email from Samsung. I pre-ordered a blue Note 8. I passed on it because Samsung Canada was jerking us around on the offer. I’ve always felt my S7 Edge was a downgrade.

So I’m conflicted as if I get a Note 8, it’s gonna make my bill grow. Though my S7e does have a very annoying bug that it randomly refuses to connect to the network while being ‘connected’. Sometimes it just connects a second or two layer but others I have to power cycle. It makes no difference if I reboot it or not. It can happen right after a reboot or wait days/weeks… can’t warranty it because it’s so damn random.

Then again the Note 8 has a super locked bootloader that makes custom roms likely impossible… sigh I wish my carrier carried HTC I really want a U11.

If I could still get the preorder bonus it would probably sway me. Heh

  • Christina Chan

Who was successful in getting a code that is actually valid after calling them?

    • jpd514

      Dear _xxxxx

We confirm that we have received your registration form for Samsung Galaxy Note8 Upgrade Offer.

Your registration form is now undergoing a verification process which will take a minimum of 15 business days following receipt of this email. We will email you after the verification process is complete.

    • PJ66

My code was good! After a few days the status on my application indicated that the note 8 was missing from the scanned reciept! I called and they had no idea why that was the case as she looked at the scan herself and it was indeed there. She said she will approve it and I will get the card in 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Arthur Ho

Has anyone else with a Note 5 or below been able to get a redemption code??

    • jamesbond00769

I got one finally. I have to upload a copy of original invoice of purchase of my Note 5 and Note 8. As long as your Note 5 is registered in your Samsung account and the Note 8 as well, they shall give you one. Good luck!

    • Arthur Ho

Did you get a code by calling or online chat? I’ve tried online and multiple reps have asked me for IMEI of my Note7 which I never had.

    • jamesbond00769

I started in an online chat. Ask them to escalate your problem to higher level. Keep the chat id number in reference or have a chat transcript send to your email. Then I upload a copy of my invoices on their email support with that chat id number

Wait 4 to 5 business (don’t count weekend days). Then go back to live chat support ans ask them to check the answer at your escalating request. Mention that you forwarded to their email team those documents. They gave me the unique code at this time.

      Best wishes in your request!

  • Kalie Fong

I had note 2, note 4, note 7 and note 8 and they said I’m not eligible because I did not opt in.

    • Cin

They told me the same thing….

  • GetInMyBellyNow

Samsung Live Chat was able to provide me with a unique offer code. I’m all set. Hopefully they don’t find an excuse to disqualify me. I’m all good as far as I’m concerned.

    • Yves Bénard

What did you have to provide them to get a code?

    • GetInMyBellyNow

I was already logged into My Samsung account online, did the live chat from there and told them I needed the code to proceed and that I never received any e.mails. They just gave me the code, I would assume that they were able to verify my devices and eligibility because I was already logged in?

  • Pinky

Anyone having luck getting the code? I also did not receive the email. Called the 1-866 number and Live Chat, both told me I’m not eligible because “I did not follow through the recall procedure”, which is “exchange the original Note7 for a replacement, and then refund the replacement”. No where on the Terms & Conditions was written regarding the recall procedure. I simply refunded the original Note7, period. Now they say I’m not eligible… that’s BS!

    • jamesbond00769

I started in an online chat. Ask them to ESCALATE your problem to HIGHER level. Keep the chat id number in reference or have a chat transcript send to your email. Then I upload a copy of my invoices of Note 7 and Note 8 on their email support with that chat id number

Wait 4 to 5 business (don’t count weekend days). Then go back to live chat support ans ask them to check the answer at your escalating request. Mention that you forwarded to their email team those documents. They gave me the unique code at this time.

      Best wishes in your request!

    • Pinky

Argh… with the call centre now. I sent them the documents and are now following up with them. They still say I did not return the replacement phone and therefore I’m not eligible! There is no where in any of the recall policy or instructions that I must have a replacement phone! I did not take a replacement phone, just full refund, period. Cheap SAMSUNG!
