OnePlus 5T lacks DRM certification to stream in HD from Netflix, Amazon Prime and more

The company says an update is on its way to remedy the issue

Some knowledgeable OnePlus 5T owners have discovered their new smartphone is unable to properly stream HD content from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Google Play Movies.

As noted in a post over on the OnePlus community forums, the OnePlus 5T — as well as its predecessor, the OnePlus 5 — lacks the necessary support for Widevine Level 1 DRM to enable HD streaming on those platforms. It currently only supports Widevine Level 3 DRM, which is only suitable for standard definition streaming.

In a statement issued to The Verge, a OnePlus spokesperson confirmed the issue and noted the company is working on an update to add the missing DRM. The spokesperson did not tell the website why OnePlus shipped the OP5 and 5T without the necessary DRM, nor did they provide a timeline for when the company will push the update to users.
