Google reveals ‘YouTube Go’ for offline viewing

Taking YouTube videos on the go is never an easy task but YouTube has a new solution to this issue called YouTube Go.

Revealed at a Google product event in Delhi, India, YouTube Go is a spin-off of the Indian version of YouTube’s ‘Smart Offline’ feature released earlier this year, allowing more control over offline video storage.

The app allows users to preview videos and select download quality based on storage capacity and download allowance. A local share feature even allows users to swap videos between phones without using the internet, presumably over Bluetooth.

The app tracks saved videos in a simple tab inside YouTube Go’s app, allowing users to avoid hunting for videos in Android’s often difficult to find download section.

YouTube Go is currently accepting registrations. There’s no word yet on when the app will launch in India or if Google plans to release it in other areas of the world. Given Canadians’ sometimes restrictive data caps, having the ability to download YouTube videos ahead of time in order to watch them on-the-go, would be a welcome feature.
