BlackBerry “London” pops up on leaked doc… looking very nice!

Wow wow wee waa! Here’s what’s said to be the first official pic of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 powered “London”. Apparently the “London” name is what’s going to used when this is released in the UK, while other countries such as the United States might end up with “Laguna” and “Lisbon”. Regardless, it’s looking wicked! Incredibly thin with its curved edges and huge! The screenshot shows that the London “has hardware and platform. Fused into one polished experience”. BlackBerry 10, otherwise known as BBX, is based of RIM’s QNX-platform that’s powering the BlackBerry PlayBook. The specs are still unknown, but it’s all touchscreen. Other rumoured specs have it possibly coming with a 1.5GHz dual core processor (currently TI OMAP5 and Qualcomm chipsets are in testing). RIM stated that the first BlackBerry 10 device will be released “in the latter part of 2012″, but rumours from last week point towards October.

    • 6 months of rumors about “London” and suddenly one day after the the HUGE superhero fail-faceplant and the “mock” gets released. Read the article this is a “what looks and seems to be the London” “according to sources close to RIM” etc etc, so this is just vaporware again. The only thing that is CONFIRMED to come out of RIM is GOGO girl and Max-to the MAX!

    • Hi Nick, Waiting for RIM to release the new phones is exactly what RIM is expecting you to do. Thanks for supporting RIM!
Unfortunately there are people that needed a NEW phone by Holidays, Chinese yr, St Valentines, Spring Break, Summer, Back to School and Halloween, (Holidays in some markets?) and they won’t be able to wait that long, and that is the problem for RIM.

  11. I think RIM might have finally learned how to make a proper smartphone lol.

Though, not really a fan of having phones named after cities. If it’s only a codename, then ya, fine, but if it’s the final name, then I’m not too happy about it because people are so gonna use them as an argument “Oh ya? Well Hong Kong is better because it comes with a much faster quad core and is a lot thinner than Waterloo.” >.>” lol.

Let’s see how the market react to this beautiful phone if this is true.

  14. too hopeful for all the RIM supporters above. if this phone comes out in “the latter part” of 2012. what is the point? by that time, this “new” blackberry is AGAIN behind the curve on hardware specs. smartphones will be quad core by then while RIM is stuck on dual core.

of course the number of cores dont really matter, but RIM will be perceived AGAIN as backdated, and out of sync with the new technology, like they have been for years now.

if this phone came out now, then that would have been great, it would allow RIM to compete with the current phones, but not in 8 months time.

  19. Not only does this look like a fake and poor 3D render rather than an actual product, I’m more interested about the OS than the specs… that’s really what’s gonna make or break RIM.

That and having a phone that you don’t have to reset by pulling the battery out every day.

  21. I wanna see the OS in action. If it’s as smooth and if it’s as good in handling multitasking as the playbook, then Android is going to have another competitor. RIM please dont f**k up, please man! You’re the only thing that is Canadian in Canada. We need you lol. :P

  22. Hopefully we’ll see a gesture area like on the Playbook, and it will be implemented well like it is on the Pre.. Otherwise, nice design. Reminds me of the Droid X. Perhaps the dead space at the top of the device is a bit much, though, and I’m not sure what I think of the giant “Blackberry” logo.

  23. I assume the extra space around the screen is for the multi-tasking gestures like on the PB, that work very well btw. If the OS is as smooth as on the Playbook, this will be a very good phone. The Android App Player on the beta versions of the 2.0 OS works really well and gives you the best of both worlds…running BB messaging and all the best Android apps on the same phone, could be the next killer phone. Just wondering how the BB faithful will react to a phone with no keyboard.

  41. So there’s a couple things that need to happen here. A couple people have commmented on how there’s too much bezel or ‘dead space’ around the screen…I agree and that’s one of the things I pointed out to our BB rep. Also, like 90% of you are pointing out, if this doesn’t get launched til October this thing will be dead in the water spec-wise. Another thing I’m concerned with is the App World..it’s already underwhelming (perhaps not as bad as WP7′s market, but that’s not saying much). If they’re scrapping BB7 ALREADY, I’m assuming they’ll have some sort of app base with the Playbook, but is that a good thing? I haven’t used a Playbook enough to know. People are switching from BB to iPhone and Android products left, right and center…at least in my store…let’s hope they can pull something together, even if it’s changing our thought process from ‘it’s not performing because it’s a piece of sh*t blackberry’ to, ‘BB has upped their game considerably since a disastrous 2011′.

  48. Looks awesome! But RIM really needs to get this out before summer and with no issues. They also need to have Android apps running smoothly on it and include HDMI.
The quad core/dual core is a non-issue really but if they can solve battery issues they can start to claw back some market share.
I’d also like to see a similar phone with a slide out RIMM keyboard!

  50. Outdated hardware? Only die-hard Android fans care about having the latest hardware, since Android is such a resource hog. My iPhone 4 ran smoother than my G2x and it was only single core. (I’m not advocating for Apple, after all, I got rid of my iPhone, didn’t I?)

I don’t care about what’s under the hood (and neither does the average smartphone user); it’s all about how the phone performs.

I’ve never liked BB, but this seems like something that I could possibly try.

  51. I’ve owned several blackberries and every single one has had hourglass issues over multiple OS iterations. I finally ditched BB and switched to Android and have never looked back. Battery life is a non issue as you can find apps that provide great battery savings on android. Unless this new OS is BUTTERY smooth and hourglass free (I mean, they need to downright get rid of the hourglass altogether), you won’t see most casual users switch BACK to BB. What is the point?
