It’s all coming together. A couple weeks back we posted news of a new “Smartphone Lite” category that Rogers will soon be releasing. Listed on the internal doc were a couple new devices, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro and Samsung Galaxy Q. In addition, we were also tipped that Fido will be releasing the LG Optimus 2X… well, taking a look at the above screenshot shows all these devices will be making their way to Fido in Q3. Two new Android smartphones and one quick messaging device.
We’re still waiting on prices and launch dates, but are hearing the Optimus 2X might possibly be available within a few days. The Optimus 2X runs Android 2.2 and is a bit strange as Rogers will not be carrying it, but both WIND and Videotron launched this a couple months ago. However, specs have it coming with a 4-inch display, 1 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera that captures 1080p HD videos and has a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera.
As for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, this runs Android OS 2.3 and has a full 4-row QWERTY slider and packs some power with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Screen size is 3.7-inch screen (resolution of 480 x 854) and also has an 8-megapixel that can record HD videos. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy Q will be heading to Rogers lineup too, powered by Android OS 2.2 and has a 3.2-inch display and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Also, for those who want to read into the text at the bottom of the document: “Note: New iPhone will be available for HUP”… does this mean the new iPhone 5 is launching in Q3?
Solid devices for Fido.
More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)
Big brother Rogers letting little Fido play a bit…good to see!

I would actually be happy if Wind did offer 1-2 year contracts. that would stir up the competition even more and getting the Big 3 to take away 3 year contracts.

Discount Brands like Fido seriously need to reconsider their smartphone plans since they are the same price as Rogers which isn’t a discount brand

Does this mean that Fido has a different Optimus 2x than whats out there? Or is it just going to operate on one of the 3g bands? I thought the 2x only had T-Mobile and Wind bands.

Fido uses the 3G band that Rogers uses. Fido is a smaller company from Rogers which means that they use the same bands & same Towers Rogers uses.

i get that fido=rogers. But what I’m asking is that up until now I haven’t seen a “rogers” friendly version of this phone. It up until now has operated only on Wind Mobile’s bands.

It’s about time Fido stepped up to the plate. Fido is still the nations fourth largest national carrier and has more subscribers than Koodo, Solo, and Virgin put together. They used to be known for innovation. This is bringing Fido back up to speed.

For those who are wondering, Samsung Galaxy Q = Samsung Gravity Smart. It’s a nice cheap QMD w/ Android.
