Gmail for Android update allows replying, archiving straight from the notification bar

gmailandroidupdateGmail for Android has been updated with an excellent new feature for those running Jelly Bean or higher. Taking advantage of expandable notifications, the app now allows you to Archive, Reply or, in some cases, Remove Label, from an email without entering the app.

Over the past few months, an increasing number of developers have updated their apps to take advantage of expandable notifications. It works best in situations where a preview –such as an email subject — can open on to a swath of text, like an email body. Apps like Falcon for Twitter and 1Weather also take advantage of the new interaction.

Gmail for Android gets performance improvements and bug fixes for anyone running ICS or over, which is now more than those on Gingerbread. There are also improvements to offline search.
