Nokia C1 render photos leak – Is this the company’s first true Android phone? [Update – Nope]

Nokia C1

Could 2015 finally be the year ailing smartphone manufacturers like BlackBerry and Nokia finally pull things together? Probably not, but both companies seem to be working on valiant efforts to remain relevant, at least if recent rumours end up being true.

BlackBerry is reportedly preparing to return to its QWERTY keyboard roots with the rumoured Venice Android smartphone, and now that Nokia has once again split from Microsoft, the company is finally able to release an Android smartphone. And it looks like Nokia’s first Android phone is set to be the still-unannounced but often-rumoured Nokia C1.

Renders of the still device have reportedly leaked our of China via popular Chinese messaging service Weibo.

The big draw with this device is that it’s rumoured to be a stock Android device devoid of bloatware, which makes sense given the relatively well-received Nokia N1 Android tablet.

On the other hand, Nokia holdouts hoping the C1 will be a high-end device will likely be disappointed. Rumours indicate the Nokia C1 is set to feature a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, Intel Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel/5-megapixel front-facing camera – all hardware components that are less than stellar.

In early July Microsoft cut nearly 8,000 jobs in its phone division, taking a US$7.6 billion impairment charge related to the company’s acquisition of Nokia.

Update: Unfortunately, these renders are fake and not the Nokia Android phone of the future. Just a fan made graphic.
