TELUS confirmed last week that the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be released sometime later “this year”. Soon after it was revealed that Virgin, Rogers and Bell will also be releasing the BlackBerry slider device. Bell stated sometime in the Fall but Rogers gave a hint with a potential release date of “the coming weeks”.
News today comes from the TheBerryFix as they received a tip that stated TELUS has a scheduled release date set for Thursday, September 16th. No word on a price points but if this date is true it’ll be launched only 4 weeks after AT&T releases it.
Will you be holding out for the new BlackBerry 9800?
Okay this is a definite contender for an upgrade from my Storm2 but what about the rumoured Storm3?

It’s between the HTC Desire and the Torch. Can’t wait, hope that date is acurate, cause I don’t think I’ll wait much more than that before I just grabe the Desire!

I think Rogers will be releasing the device around the same time as CNE.

Yeah all the reviews completely ripped apart the Torch. Definite pass.

Already talked to loyalty and retention at Telus to make the jump from 8350i on MiKE to the Torch on 3G+ … they want to let me do it as soon as details are released

Pass on this one– too little, too late. Chunky phone by description– all in all, better fish to fry out there!

I think for loyal blackberry users this is going to a great upgrade.
I am still not sure… Will have to play with one for myself to decide. I just loaded this page on my 8330 and it took 3 minutes so… If Torch isn’t better I’m going back to android (had a nexus one).

What all the specs-peepers and people who buy for aesthetics don’t always appreciate is that RIM sweats the process you never see like Apple sweats the design. The reason this beast has a “slow” processor is mostly because it doesn’t NEED a 1GHz processor to do well what the other do. It’s kinda sad that RIM’s taking so much heat. It isn’t like they make a bad product, it’s just that it isn’t as “pretty”. In many ways, it is still quite the superior device. Full disclosure, I used a BB for years but am now on Android. I don’t regret the choice, I just see all this RIM bashing as entirely unfair. For many, this device will be the cat’s a*s, and that’s exactly as it should be. I’m sure it’ll rock.

I’m looking forward to the phone.
Of course, like the iPhone and other modern phones, Telus won’t sell it here in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. But if Telus ever goes back to being a national carrier instead of a regional one, it’s something to look forward to.

I would like to know more details about the phone.
I guess with it being release 4 weeks sooner with AT&T then it gives me a change to read some real user reviews and see some specific specs and details.

iLikey – Likey… even thinking about trading in my Bold 9700 to the newer Torch 9800 because of the actual touch screen, 5 megapixal camera, pleasing ashtetics and full physycal QWERTY keyboard. Can’t wait for Telus to get it in their stores.
I’m diggin this one!! …Nice work RIM!!!

I have the Milestone which I think is a great device. I had the original BB Pearl and used it for 4 years, it was a good work horse but slow.. I would like the Torch too bad I have to wait another 2 years to update to it

I would love to, however, seeing as I only started my contract with Bell in Feb 2010, there is no way I am due for an upgrade of such fabulousness yet
and it’s a shame, because my Curve 8330 I believe has gone as far as she can go
. Who wants to save me huh?
