Indiegogo suspends Frank Phone campaign

If they didn’t even design the phone will Indiegogo allow them to run their campaign? It is more relaxed than kickstarter, but it isn’t that lax on protecting backers from people who probably didn’t do what they claim they did.

Even Androidpolice ran a report indicating some problems from the company’s end.

That’s who the source of the article is labeled as is Android police

Ways to slap young kids with the cold hard reality that is global commerce.

They weren’t going to reach their designed targets anyway. They barely had 25k out of the 250k they’re asking.
Also, these guys were anything but frank about the Frank phone

No surprise there. How quick people were to jump on this thinking some genius teenager was going to show the big boys ( Apple or Samsung) how to make cheap flagships.

You know what they say: “Any kid in a garage with white-label Chinese phones can put an almost-trillion-dollar company out of business.” Or something like that, right?

Didn’t help that CBC, Mobilesyrup and a few other reputable publications helped publicize it as if that was the case.

  • Sequoia46.2

Kinda sad, but the only thing they were selling was a marketing campaign for a cheap, Chinese phone.

    • EcE

Not really sad at all though.
It would’ve been sad to see it funded and then see all those people have issues and no one to turn to for warranties.

  • Daniel Szilagyi

In the end it wouldn’t have been that cheap anyway, you can find much better phones for only a tiny bit more that has R/D, Warranty and a ton of other basic things people might take for granted covered.

Good intentions though, and that does deserve a small pat on the back

In addition, have they planned through the Android certification process? FCC filing?
They’ve never mentioned those in their plans.

I hope they were not planning to just copy Google Play and related apps on the phone.
