The timing is suspect, and the similarities irrefutable, but Samsung has decided to weather any incoming criticism and launch a limited edition gold variant of its Galaxy S4 flagship.
It must be noted that the device has only been announced for the Middle East, particularly the UAE, which has loved gold phones since before the iPhone 5s was but a glimpse in Apple’s eye, but we digress.
It’s hard to know whether Samsung is launching this variant tongue firmly planted in cheek, since it had to know it would generate this type of response. Nevertheless, launching with the slogan, “Elegance is a touch of Gold,” we believe they’re taking it quite seriously.
It also looks like, based on the included render, that the device will come with a pink face. We’re not going to assume anything about Samsung’s target audience, but we’re fairly certain it’s not aimed at the same buyers looking at a gold-coloured iPhone 5s.
