Rogers giving employees option to purchase Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for $150 on 1-year

It certainly looks like a good time to be a Rogers employee, especially if you’re in the market for a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Sure there’s an in-market promo for us regular consumers that gives a free Tab 10.1 when 2 new lines are activated, but this deal is exclusive to Rogers employees and gives them the opportunity to score a Tab 10.1 for a wickedly low $149.99 on a 1-year term. According to the internal doc, the fine folks at Rogers will also take care of the first 2 months of service and waive the activation fee. $150 for a 10.1-inch Android Honeycomb tablet – Good deal and best you start reaching out to your friends who work at Rogers.

(Thanks tipster!)

  1. I have lots of friends who work for Rogers …

also how much is it for the ECF?

    Thanks!

    • This tablet is not selling well. they have/had tons of stock and want to get rid of dead inventory.
The plan to the public is $20 per month; $10 for Rogers employees for 500MB -Ridiculous! and they sell the tablet for $150 which is ok. So Rogers takes a loss on hardware, as internal sale maybe even writes it off?? but gets a profit with the service, wich as we know is almost 90% profit, so even at $10 per month they are making a profit.
Keeping this at an internal level reduces/ eliminates price erosion AND AVOIDS PRICE COMPETITION with Bell and Telus; otherwise they would be forced to reduce price of 500MB to $10, then one would keep the same price but increase the cap to 1GB; etc etc you know; its like the things we see on tv or read about in other parts of the world, I think they call it COMPETITION!
You have to give it the credit to Rogers for that; that’s how they make so much money out of us and afford to buy CRTC, sorry,Sports teams.

    • The data plan ($20/month) and the 1 yr contract is transferable to another person after 2 months with no penalty.

  2. Thats a hell of a deal!!!

    Total cost: (10 months x 20$) + 150$ = 350$, 500mb of data per month included for one year!!

Even 500$ would have been cool; but this ROCKS

    • $20 x 10mo?

Employees get a discount on the reg plans as well ? Or am i missing the point and that there’s no “minimum plan price” for these tablets?

  3. The sale is limited to 2 per employee, while supplies last, and most people are reporting being on hold with the discount line (no web purchase) for 3 hours plus.

    • I’m betting it’s in part to do with the Playbook mess, and avoiding driving purchases past their actual stock levels again.

  5. Why can’t Robber offer to this everyone?

Is it because they are out of cash since the Maple Leaf deal today?

  7. It’s because this particular tablet isn’t selling, they have too much inventory. The tablet market for built-in SIM cards and having to purchase with a data plan isn’t going well. With the holidays here, they’ve realized the next generation tablets without data plans are the route most consumers of tablets are going for.
Rogers has close to 30,000 employees. They’ll have plenty left if each purchases two!

  11. Rogers employees better save their money, because bonuses are going to be tight this year. their results have been horrendous! they now have to compete and can no longer rely on a GSM/HSPA network advantage – it’s catching up.

  16. Does this apply to third party reps or just first party reps. I mean the ones who are employed by the call center but are farmed out to rogers

  21. If #DEAL is still busy you can try *611 and ask to be transferred to the Employee Discount Line. I was on hold for over 4 hours last night. I called again tonight and got through right away… apparently they have a callback system, and faster way to process the 10.1 orders. Guessing that Rogers isn’t hitting their MBB targets and everyone of these is an activation.

  23. Each employee gets a max of 2 Samsung Tablets. The first 2 months MSF (monthly service fee) is free on a 1 year term with a Flex Rate Data plan that starts at $20 up to 500MB and $35 for 500MB to 5GB. As a Rogers employee you receive a 50% discount towards the MSF. Meaning the $20 MSF would only be $10/month for 10 months. And to answer the above question, no you can not do a TOR. If you TOR then the employee 50% discount does not apply.

  25. You can’t do a TOR within the first 6 months of activation of new hardware, and then there would be no ECF but if you cancel its’ the actual price of the hardware minus what you paid for it. EG. 500-150= 350 cancellation fee.
