Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Unboxed & rocked during Metric show

The Galaxy S Vibrant will be released by Bell (and apparently Virgin) and is one of the best devices Samsung has ever created. You can take a look at the unboxing pics below, but if you’re considering getting this you should really go and give it a good test run. It’s got everything going for it: Android 2.1 (will be upgraded to 2.2), 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera that can record 720p HD videos, DivX/Xvid, Video calling, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Social Hub (puts all your Facebook, Twitter e-mails etc into one area), weighs a light 118 grams… the list goes on.

To launch this device, Samsung held a Metric free concert in Toronto yesterday. It was a wicked show and there seemed to be well over 2,000 people on Front Street. They played for 1-hour and I snapped the pics with the Vibrant so you can get a taste of what the camera and video quality is like.

  5. @ DavidM

    At least it comes with Android 2.1. We X10 users will be waiting another two months for that, assuming the bootloader isn’t cracked first.

  6. @DavidM, the Vibrant is running 2.1, I think the X10 is on 1.6 The Vibrant does indeed have a front-facing camera and its graphics processor is insanely powerful for a phone. But that’s the great thing about Android, lots of choice for everyone. :)

  7. I just wanna say that I’m not an iPhone hater, I think it’s fine if that’s what you want. But you would have to be an absolute sheep to be hating on this phone.

  8. Oh, nice..I like the bigger 4″ screen, removable battery & memory card, better than iPhone4 in those categories. Used 2 Samsungs before, didn’t let me down. Man, too many choices is also a headache, lol.

  12. I get a discount early 2011. Even though I love my Omnia 2, I’m getting tired of -yes- the WM 6.5 reboots whenever I try to do a quick tweet on the golf course;) This phone is on my list even tho it does’t have a flash like the O2.

  13. The one thing I haven’t been able to find out is how much internal ROM the Vibrant (Bell version) has. They don’t list that spec on the Bell site (yet) and the Bell Vibrant is different from the US Vibrant. All I can see is that it supports microSD up to 32GB.

    The Samsung Captivate that Rogers is getting will have 16 GB internal ROM. Can anyone confirm if the Bell Vibrant has the same? How much internal ROM does it have?

  15. So to anyone who has this/used it, is the home screen by default the first screen or the center screen? The international version, which is the closest to Bell’s, has the default screen the first, which is really annoying.

  16. this is indeed a very very tempting phone.. had my eye on it since it was first announced, the graphics power and beautiful screen combo make it quite the killer device, but then I got word of the Pro model with the awesome looking hardware keyboard and once again I find myself waiting for the uber android device that’s “right around the corner”. I love hardware keyboards too much to pull the trigger on this though if there’s a chance the Pro will be appearing in Canada in the next couple months.

  18. Best Buy at Warden and Eglinton has a working demo…fantastic…the screen is amazing!
    Sadly, I’ve been calling around to Best Buys around the city and nobody knows when they’re coming in. Apparently Best Buy’s left out in the cold when it comes to launch days.

  24. Actually it looks as if they just partitioned the 16GB of flash. The 16GB flash card in my phone is 14.93GB total. So that makes sense.

    Why bother partitioning does anyone know any benefit?

    Problem is sprint is making those phones CDMA network & their Wimax Signal. Telus and Bell do not allow you to just take other CDMA ESN and register them to their networks. People have been trying this for a long time.

    Can this be confirmed by others as well? The bell website states..

    Multimedia

    * Camera: 5 MP with flash, zoom and multi-shot
    * HD video recording (720p)
    * FM radio

    Did they mess up and add flash? I also thought no version even the original had a flash..

  29. I WAS a MAC FANBOi until yesterday…(well still am for MacBUT no more for mobile devices)
    Honestly, all you fAnBoIs outthere, you guys have to try this phone.
    I just got this phone yesterday and have COMPLETELY dumped my 3Gs.
    Transfered all my iTunes on it so really no use for my iPhone.
    The SWYPE keyboard is IN-FREAKING-SANE, wayyyy better than anything ive ever owned and puts touch screen typing to shame.
    Did you guys know you can actually turn the phone into a wireless modem kind of like tettering, this feature is great for students like myself trying to catch wifi from my laptop in odd areas.
    Oh and you CAN create folders which surprised me.
    Multitask is obvious but as an iPhone user this is new uncharted territory for me.
    Oh and can i say one last thing… WIFI video calling -> seriously, what was Apple thinking. I’m sorry but (unless jailbroken) I’m not going to text my friends and tell them to turn on their wifi before I call them to schedule a video call- unless you guys keep your wifi on all the time your pretty much in video call scheduling mode.

  35. No flash for the camersa confirmed but who cares. Only issue now is the lack of cheap good smarthphone data plans. Iphone gets a 6 gigs for $50-60. Android gets a $50 for 500megs plan??
