Paid apps coming to Palm webOS in Canada

Very good news for all the current Palm webOS users out there! Currently we only have the Bell Palm Pre available but one of the major upsets was the lack of video capability and this was fixed with recent webOS 1.4 update.

Another source of frustration was the App Catalog as we only have free apps available to us, no paid apps yet. Good news as Palm sent out an e-mail to their developer community informing them that paid apps will be coming soon, possibly by the end of March:

The e-mail stated “We are very excited about the upcoming launch of international e-commerce for the Palm App Catalog. To follow up on our announcement in January we want to provide you with some additional information to ensure that your paid applications are ready for international distribution as soon as possible. We’d also like to inform you that in addition to the planned European launch, we will be launching e-commerce support in Canada and Mexico.”

  2. I will be royally pissed if Palm gets their paid apps thru before Google does. Granted they have a smaller app store but how long must Google keep dragging their feet? Maybe I should switch to Apple as they seem to have their sh*t together when it comes to these matters

  3. Even though I’m a Palm investor, I’d be surprised if there was much of a Palm market up here (currently).

A launch on Telus / Rogers of the Pre Plus AND Pixi could be good though. Hopefully that’s on the horizon hence the app catalog.

  4. Hopefully this news will light a fire under Google’s feet so that they will hurry to bring paid apps to Canada soon.

  5. Well being 1 of the 11 customers….I’ll be happy. I like my phone, and it’ll be nice to be able to get some of these apps I’ve seen on myappbox.com. Maybe I should have gotten an iPhone, but I didn’t….oh well.

  6. Well, we might eleven, but we are eleven happy WEBOS users, something that the non users can say.

    XD

And I love all the homebrewing scene, and patching, and themes, I even made a theme to my liking.

Those are the things that keep me happy, one of the eleven happy.

    XD

  9. I know who cares. Someone who has owned an HTC touch, a Blackberry, and a Pre, and have used an iTouch(myself).
The PRe is by far the best one for me. None of the others can do what I use my Pre for.
