The Apple iPhone looks to be getting a new app soon that will give you Voice Turn-by-Turn GPS. A great addition to he basic GPS it currently has. A new version of xGPS uses Google Maps driving direction and visual info… then translates the text into audible directions. Check out this 8-minute video demo

It’s already out, and it’s not in the official App Store because Apple restricts developers from making this kind of application. You have to get it through Cydia, the application you use to get unofficial applications when you jailbreak your iPhone. I’ve downloaded it and it works.
The current version for download doesn’t have the vocalization, but a new version that does will be released very soon.
