Videotron releases the HTC 8S

htc8sreview-111
The HTC One is getting prepared for its Canadian debut in a few weeks, but before this gets the official green light HTC is content with bringing its devices from last year to smaller Canadian carriers. The Windows Phone 8S is now available at Quebec-based Videotron. The price is respectable at $14.95 on a “Reduced price,” but unfortuntatey wins the high card for the priciest no-term cost at $349.95.

As for specs, this entry-level Windows Phone 8 device has a 4-inch Super LCD display (480 x 800), 1Ghz dual-core processor, 5MP Camera, 1700mAh battery and is about 10mm thin.

why do they keep releasing windows phones? I saw maybe one in my life. nobody buys them. dumb OS.

    • Truth

Saw at least three at school, one on the bus, and one for myself. They exist!

    Lame

The phone is beautiful and runs very smooth. The only weakness is internal storage. $349 is too much. You can get one at Bell with $279 or Wind with $299.

It’s cute how Microsoft strives to stay relevant.

    • Tony

The competition is actually copying Windows Phone so they are relevant.

Half ram as the other windows phone, too bad.

    • Mike

      Half price, too.

@Tony I don’t want to get into an argument about this but how is the competition copying windows phone? I’m trying to think of a particular feature that may have been copied and the only thing that comes close is the live tiles used by Blackberry 10, other than that I can’t think of anything else.

I’ve never met anyone that owned one of these phones, I’ve stated before that I don’t think these are bad phones but irrelevant in an age where Android and IOS dominate the market. They’re very well made at least the ones from Nokia but I fail to see where other companies are striving to copy Microsoft on this.

Blackberry 10 is a huge example, but another is the new look they developed for HTC Sense 5 with Blink Feed. The home screen on the HTC One and HTC’s other Android phones is now blatantly based on Windows Phone in terms of looks and functionality.

Additionally, while Windows Phone is not taking North America by storm, it is making some massive gains in certain markets. In Italy, for instance, Windows Phone has 15% marketshare. That direction of growth is certainly possible elsewhere, and makes Windows Phone absolutely relevant.

Screw Videotron, just like Telus. Hey Canadian carriers, STOP IT with these crappy low-end HTC models. ARE YOU LISTENING CANADIAN CARRIERS?

All the shills on this site, tell your carrier bosses that WE WANT HIGH END NOKIA WINDOWS PHONES!

  • Doug

Nice phone, but very expensive…especially when Telus is selling the Lumia 620 for only $249 with similar internals.
