16GB Nexus 7 sold out on Google Play, now “coming soon”

Looks like the 16GB version of the Google Nexus 7 is sold out everywhere. According to the US, UK and Canadian Play Store it states that this tablet is “coming soon” and those interested in snatching one up should “sign up to be notified by email when Nexus 7 (16GB) becomes available.” Even the Canadian retailers who stocked this version all show they are out of stock – those being Staples, Best Buy, Future Shop, London Drugs, NCIX etc. Of course you can probably find the 16GB for sale on eBay.

The 16GB version costs $259 Canadian and the 8GB, which is still available, retails for $209 Canadian. In the meantime of more 16GB stock coming back you can check out our review here, or better yet, enter our contest to win one.

Any 8gb in store yet? Or just on Google Play Store?

  • Thomas

I just returned a 16GB model to Staples, so they have at least one.

  • Kid.Canada

Thomas is the first of many that will return this POS, so stay tuned as the stores get flooded with open boxed units.

Loving the one I got from NCIX :) I have the issue of the glass lifting on the left side but it is slight, but that’s it. Still blows my expectations of a $200 tablet out of the water.

    Sent from my Nexus 7.

@Jordih “I have the issue of the glass lifting on the left side”

Wow, another satified owner of Google Crapware. Just because it was cheap they they overlook quality issues, just like Jaguar car owners who would buy their cars and overlook issues like electrical systems that would continually fail, but who cares, they own a Jaguar….excellent.

I got one through google play when it was announced and i am loving it. Mine did not ship with any defects thankfully.

  • Htcmail

Canceled my Google play 16gb order and walked into best buy few days ago and picked one up. I don’t have any issues with it works like a charm.

  • Dennis

Got mine from Staples yesterday and am loving it so far. Great little tablet. :)

  • Richard

Got mine from staples the day it came out. This tablet blows the ipad out of the water!

    • metoo

Richard: you have obviously never used an iPod. Even google wouldn’t make that claim.

    • Richard Singh

I actually own an iPod touch, my wife an iPhone, and I work in IT so I’ve had a chance to use many iDevices including all three iPads. They are okay (built well and the OS does the basics) but really, nothing has changed with iDevices since 2008 and frankly, they are antiquated and quite boring. Jelly Bean is light years ahead.

  • Rick

I can tell you this is stocked at best buy kelowna qty 7 as of 5 mins ago and Abbotsford has 1

  • Ivan

Still no word on my 16 GB “pre-order.”

Wow, sounds like a bunch of satified customers, throwing their money away for a ‘consumption’ device that doesn’t do much other than check e-mail and watch videos or listen to music.

I’ll wait for a real device with a real OS when the Windows 8 Surface Pro tablets are available this Fall. Not only will I be able to watch videos and listen to music, I’ll be able to make real videos and mix real music, not the crappy homemade slideshows or soundfiles you can make with today’s tablets (including iPad) because I can install proper Applications, not dinky little Apps.

    • Kevin

Apparently you need to check the definition of “Consumption device”.

  • Vicki Smith

I wanted a consumption device. I have a computer for anything more complex. Now if I lived in a room in my mommy’s basement, and space was an issue, a tablet that does all that might make sense.

  • Acco

One of the worst launches in recent history, hands down. Preorders on the play store get shafted for physical retailers… causing delays of one to two weeks for some…

  • Tom

Maybe just tied for worst launch ever ACCO. Kobo did the exact same thing with the VOX launch. I watched for two weeks while waiting for my pre-order as folks walked out of Best Buy with the Kobo Vox in hand.

    Very frustrating.

  • metoo

When did they say the Nexus 7 beta test was ending?

    • mike

In about a month or so…

  • ActivesiN

and I thought I was smart for preordering because I get the $25 play store credit….and supposed to get the device first

yet I could of walked to futureshop and bought one….still waiting for mine in the mail, hopefully tomorrow

  • Tom

I pre-ordered mine from Google on June 28, and just woke up to a shipping confirmation this morning. Needless to say, little pissed that people have been picking them up in stores before I got my pre-order. Massive screw-up by Google. Their marketing department should be tearing the distribution department a new one. But I’m just happy that it’s on its way, even though I’ll be out of town for a few days when it arrives.

  • Rob

Like TOM I woke up to a shipping confirmation. I pre-ordered on the 29th. A co-worker ordered on 27th and had a shipping conf last Thurs, with scheduled delivery for this Wed. My scheduled delivery is this Fri. Doesn’t look like two day shipping to me. NOT impressed.

I ordered my 16GB Nexus 7 on July 18th, and I got notice that it shipped today (July 24th). I am from Toronto.

Received (I live in Montreal) by UPS my 16GB Nexus 7 today ! :-)

It’s running on 4.1, and within minuts I got a message telling me that a 4.1.1 version was available ! upgraded smootly and enjoying my device ! nice ! (also got a 25$ gift on Google Play :-) )

    great device !

  • Pierre

Shame on UPS. I pre-ordered the device. Got shipment notice. Tracked it hourly. Found there was an error on the address (missing unit #). Pretty easy to remedy. Right? WRONG. I phoned UPS 4 times. Firstly to add the unit number and subsequently to understand the updates that claimed the unit # was missing – twice, and once to ask why the unit was sent back to the shipper at the shippers (Google’s) request. Google has no idea why UPS is sending the unit back. After three confirmations that the address was correct, UPS decided to send the unit back!! Google has my money and UPS had my unit. Less than 50 miles away. Google is acting responsibly and will refund the money but I must restart the process all over again. UPS – a pox on your company!
