“Canada’s
 first‐ever
 virtual
store” pops up in Toronto, a QR Code lovers dream come true

If you’re in Toronto and take a trip to the lower level of Brookfield Place (corner of Front and Bay Street) you’ll see what new online retailer Well.ca has dreamed up. They’ve dished out some serious cash to have prime advertising presence in that location – millions of people walk there everyday as it’s near the subway and trains, plus in the heart of the financial district.

“Canada’s
 first‐ever
 virtual
store” was created and they’ve basically outfitted the walls with images of products such as Tide, Pampers, Old Spice and placed QR (Quick Response) codes under each item. The hope is that those passing will potentially scan an item and have it delivered to them.  The latest comScore report showed that Canadians are not really fond of QR codes, stating that “In December 2011, more than 1.4 million Canadian smartphone subscribers scanned QR Codes with their mobile device at least once in the month.”

However, before you visit the “virtual store” you’ll have to
download the
Well app  – available for iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry – then walk down and scan an item. I personally like the creativity and direction they are heading in, but it’s easier for those who are short on time to simply visit a service like GroceryGateway and buy all your health,
 beauty,
 personal
 care
 and
 household
 products from them.
