Getty Images announced a new grant program that will support Instagram photographers who document underrepresented communities.
The grant will reward three Instagram users with a mentorship from Getty’s lineup of talented photographers, along with $10,000 USD in spending money. To win the grant, entrants are required to take 10 to 20 photos of places or events of social importance not covered by mainstream media.
“The purpose of this grant is to support photographers using Instagram to document stories from underrepresented communities around the world,” says Getty. “We recognize that Instagram has introduced new opportunities for emerging voices, outside the mainstream media, to create and share projects of social importance. This grant provides financial support and mentorship to amplify their impact.”
The deadline to apply for the contest is June 4th. According to Getty, winners will be announced in September. Winners will also have their work displayed at the upcoming Photoville exhibition in New York City.
Full details on the contest can be found on Getty’s website.
