Lazaridis on the BlackBerry service outage: “You expect better from us and I expect better from us” (Video)

The BlackBerry outage that plagued many countries over the past few days has finally been restored – at least in Canada. However, you can always tell how big a mess is when the CEO steps up and makes a video. We’ve seen this happen a few years ago when Michael McCain, CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, expressed his deep apology for the listeria outbreak. Today, RIM followed a similar path with co-CEO and founder Mike Lazaridis.

In the above video Lazaridis stated that “Since launching BlackBerry in 1999, it’s been my goal since to provide reliable, real-time communications around the world, we did not deliver on this goal this week, not even close. I apologize for the service outages this week. We’ve let many of you down, but let me assure you that we’re working around the clock to fix this. You expect better from us and I expect better from us. It’s too soon to say that this issue is fully resolved…. we continue to monitor the system very closely. We’ve working very hard to stabilize the system… we know you want to hear more from us and we’re working to update you more frequently through our websites and social media channels. I’d like to give you an estimated time of full recovery around the world, but I cannot do this with certainty at this time. For those of you who are affected, I know this is very frustrating. We’re doing everything in our power to restore regular service levels and we’re working tirelessly to restore your trust in us.”

It’s an carefully scripted message, but a very heartfelt one that I’m sure he never saw himself delivering. We’re hearing that Canada is fully back up and running, anyone still having issues?
