During Q1 Apple sold 16.24 iPhones, then in Q2 they reported 18.65 million iPhones for a combined total first half sales of 34.89. How many do you think they have planned for the second half of the year? Well, according to overseas reports from DigiTimes they are stating that Apple is increasing production and hopes to pump out 56 million units. This is for all models: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA) and the new iPhone 5. Specific numbers for the upcoming next-gen iPhone have it potentially reaching 26 million units.
“iPhone 5 orders for the third quarter of 2011 have been lowered from seven million units to 5.5-6 million units, while fourth-quarter orders have been raised from 14 million units to more than 20 million units, the sources pointed out. Total orders for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4 CDMA for the third quarter exceed 20 million units, and fourth-quarter orders have been reduced to eight million units, the sources indicated. Total shipments iPhones in 2011 will reach 95 million units, the sources noted.”
There’s still no official announcement of when the next iPhone will come out. Rumours are now pointing towards an September announcement with an October availability. DigiTimes stated back in May that production will start this month. Hopefully that comes true.
