Apple reveals ‘Planet of the apps’ reality TV series

While rumours started circulated earlier this year that Apple may get in to the TV content game, we now know for a fact the company is preparing to produce its own video content. Complete with a pun-filled title, Planet of the Apps is a reality show that’s set to focus on app developers.

Those interested in appearing on the program reportedly need to apply by August 26 to be considered. The show is being created in collaboration with Prospect Productions, the same production company behind The Biggest Loser and Master Chef. Apparently 100 developers will be featured throughout the course of the series.

Prospect Productions says the series will be shot in Los Angeles between late 2016 and early 2017. On the show, developers will be given “hands-on guidance from some of the world’s best experts in tech and entertainment.” They will also have a chance to meet potential investors. A coveted featured position on the app store is also up for grabs.

While an interesting concept, especially for those well-versed in the tech world, it will be interesting to see if the series will resonate with a broad audience.
