Over 1 million people used Samsung’s Gear VR headset in April

Over one million people used the Gear VR last month, according to Facebook-owned high-end VR manufacturer Oculus.

Signing a partnership with Oculus, the company behind of one of the burgeoning virtual reality industry’s first major high-end VR headsets, seems to have been the right decision for Samsung.

Max Cohen, head of mobile at Oculus, recently revealed that over one million people used the Gear VR in April, with the average user logging in for at least 25 minutes a day. While a small figure compared to the sale of some other consumer electronics, particularly smartphones, one million units sold is a clear indicator the device has a bright future. It’s worth pointing out, however, that this number likely doesn’t consist of concurrent users.

Still, given this is likely the result Oculus wanted to get out of the partnership, both companies are probably satisfied with the headset’s early sales numbers.

The Gear VR costs $139.99 in Canada, though Samsung has done a variety of promotions where new Galaxy S7 owners could get the headset for free.
