You can now pay for Uber rides with PayPal, while UberX comes to Muskoka for the weekend

Canadians can now use a PayPal account to pay for Uber fares, the two companies announced today.

This marks the extension of an agreement Uber and PayPal signed in 2013. In addition to Canada, Uber customers in Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland will also be able to pay for a ride using PayPal thanks to this agreement. Previously, this arrangement was only available to residents of Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Adding a PayPal account to the app is straightforward. Ensure that you have the latest version of the app; launch it, and navigate to the “Payment” screen from the menu; select the “Add Payment” option and tap “PayPal” to add your account. Viola, you’re all set to use your PayPal account to help support Travis Kalanick’s dream of being a real-life Ayn Rand protagonist.

The company’s Toronto office also announced that its uberX service will operate in the Muskoka region this weekend. Starting at 7pm on Friday and going until 5pm on Sunday, uberX drivers will pickup cottage goers in the area detailed in the map below. New Uber customers can input the code “Muskoka15” to get $20 off their first ride.
