Virgin says their latest price plan promo “practically sells itself!”

The newest plan on the block is a $50/month “Smartphone 50 Voicemail/Call Display” promo and it’s available until June 30th. “This plan is loaded with sweetness,” available to new & existing postpaid Members and gives you 150 minutes, Unlimited Incoming Calls, Unlimited Weekends & Evenings starting at 5pm, Unlimited Canada/US/International Text & Picture Messaging, Voicemail and Call Display. If you opt to go for this plan on a smartphone then you’ll get a whopping 100MB of Data included (overage is pegged in at $10/100MB). For those who use this plan on their BlackBerry, Virgin will throw in Unlimited BlackBerry Social – which is access to Facebook, Twitter, BBM.

(Thanks tipster!)

What JOKES !!! all these plans that come out are limited and garbage..

  • gwydionjhr

    Who are they kidding?

  • jonny

    This plan is a ripoff

100mb “whopping”?!?!?! and $100/GB if you go over?!?!

and it would only “sell itself” to people too dumb to do math

  • Mischa Price

wait sorry i suppose the whopping 100 mb of data was either a typo or sarcasm …..

    • Ian Hardy

      Yes, very high on sarcasm.

    • TayTay

I wish it was easier to tell if the writer of the article was being sarcastic with all the praise or just sucking some network operator wang… I can’t tell if I am supposed to laugh or find a different blog to read :S

  • Pahech

100 megabytes is a joke. It averages out to be a little over 3 megabytes per day. That’s probably like 5 webpages.

  • thepincerslice

when you saw “a whopping” please actually include a “whopping” value, not a rice grain sized mini-bite

  • Dan

I’m better off staying with my BYOP $5/mo discount and paying $37/mo for just caller ID (voicemail irritates the sh*t out of me.

I’ve yet to see a smartphone plan that makes sense, is reasonable, that I don’t need to fight for, and where I can get GOOD COVERAGE whereever I go.

  • Big 3

basically you paid for Call ID/VM. This plan was $40/month +$10 for call id/vm

  • skullan

The big three and their discount brands are exhausting with their press releases.

It appears the general formula is:

Add some of this (anytime minutes)
Add some of this (Unlimited N&W at 5)
Add alittle of that (100Megs of data)
Add alot of this (unlimited incoming)

    New press release time:

Add some of this (anytime minutes)
Add some of this (Unlimited N&W at 6)
Add alittle of that (100Megs of data)
Add alot of this (10 national friends

    New Press release time:

Add some of this (anytime minutes)
Add some of this (Unlimited N&W at 6)
Add alittle of that (100Megs of data)
Add alot of this (voicemail, callerid, unlimited texting)

Minor changes, all at the cost of other options…

    Tiresome in my opinion.

  • wewewi

*uck those Caller ID so-called scam!

I’m sure it’s actually harder for them to HIDE who’s calling anyway.

  • Tom

Who the hell would even buy a data plan that only has 100 megabytes of data. These carriers need to get their heads out of their a*s

    • Mika

I am a sale rep’ and I swear that there is A LOT of people who wants a smartphone wihtout internet. Just to be cool, or just for the Wifi. This plan is perfect for those who don’t wanna spend lots of money for a smartphone and its allowing them to get for the lowest rate. It’s even better if you take a Blackberry because its giving you UNLIMITED BBM, Facebook and Twitter.

Fer sure if you’re a big internet user, this seem to be a ripoff, and I agree but believe, there is a lot of customer out there asking me if they can have a iPhone or any high value smartpĥone without data…

  • WIND

This would only appeal to Blackberry users as 100mb is alot on a bb plus bb social is included…

  • crunch204

what are they thinking? why not make it 1GB, set the bar for intro smarthone plans between the big 3?

  • OgtheDim

Who uses the word whopping when it comes to 100Mb?

Meh….I hope you didn’t tip the tipster who told you about this.

  • XER

I have to blinked my eyes a few times when I see 100MB data!

    Hmmm…. I thought I was seeing 1000MB.

  • eh0K

Even light data users would creep up on 100 MB. In my opinion the only reason to set such a low data cap is to bait people into incurring overage charges. Terrible data cap.

  • MIJ

Here is an idea… Sign up either the City Unlimited plan or 200 Canada Wide minute plan for $35. This will give you more minutes, CID,/VM and 50 txts, unlimited BBM and flex data… Even you use 100MB, it will be $10! Your total is $45.

Nice try to rip off your customers!

  • Tom

Cant even use that 100 mb on a Blackberry because they’ll switch u to social apps instead. Useless plan.

  • Kid.Canada

Lmao!!! 100MB of Data included plus $10/100MB overage. TBH that’s when I stopped reading and I love the sarcasm u used there Ian.

  • Amar

not a big 3 troll but i gotta give credit where its due..if u r gonna pay $50 then y not koodo

150 anytime (canada-wide), 1 gig data, call display +VM, unlimited evenings and weekends 7pm, unlimited messaging

and no contract..so y would anyone want this?

  • lukeiphone

WHAT IS 100MB? Now a days on LTE I am about to go over 6GB :|

  • RyanOver

    $55 fAB 10 FROM bELL
    I got 200 minutes
fab 10 unlimited talk and text
unlimited text messaging Canada & US
    1 gig of data

  • Mike

They must have hired some comedians @ the headquarters.

  • Marco

This plan is a total joke,in my opinion light data should be like 300mb at least not 100mb! But these companies know alot of subscribers always surpass their data caps and pay more in the end. Basically Virgin is just tryna screw ppl with this “amazing” plan.

  • Anthony Grillo

    It sells itself into bankruptcy.

  • D.B

    This plan sells rubbish

  • EddieWinslow

100mb would honestly last me a day, not even that.

With Wind expanding, it seems the big 3 and thier subs are coming out with even more terrible plans to counter?

    0_o

  • MG

Bell/Virgin marketing at its best. Completely out of synch with customer needs, market trends, etc… Give it up boys.

As Bob Dylan said so precisely, “The answer my friend, is blowing in the WIND”!!!! Wind Mobile that is.

  • JadonFresh

These companies have heavy marketing power. They can saturate the market with their ads touting how much of a deal their plans are and many will buy it. Not everyone is as informed as people on this forum. When it comes time to renew that contract, people just see what’s out there in that short window of time.

  • matt

    who designs these plans………

  • John

Is this a joke, a whopping 100 MB. Wow only $50 a month. Sign me up right now.

  • virgin100MB

A “whopping 100MB”? Is that Virgin’s way of making a joke with us?

  • Dizzle

100 million law suit for missing advertising and lying and stealing from innocent people. f u c k off already somebody need to come and pop the cherry of the Virginia. This is where Perry needs to be deep throated as well

  • TKG26

I miss the old CDMA networks. Oh sure it was not fast.. But neither is my 3G… For 15$ a month on telus i had true unlimited data. I think Bell had the same for 7$

The gouge on data with phones is gettin on my f-ing nerves. Especially with real smartphones from Android that has live widgets and tones of data usage apps… If they could price data on the CDMA with humanity shurely they can with todays new higher speed networks..

All 50$ plans should come with minimum 1gig…. Im on a 500meg 50$ plan and im a heavy users and with a bit of restraint can stay just about on the limit or just over, id rather not have to keep watching what i do.. 1 gig would be nice for that price point.

  • KC

Well, this plan explains why BlackBerrys are still popular with the tween/teen set. Because the only people this plan would make any sense for is parents buying for kids because the unlimited social apps is pretty much all they care about anyway. For anyone who pays their own bills, this plan is rediculious. As someone mentioned above, $100 per GB for data is insane pricing when with the growth of smart phones data is rapidly becoming more important then the voice plan and SMS/MMS is in decline so who cares about unlimited SMS/MMS when instant messaging has replaced them anyway. I don’t have a single contact that does not have Whatsapp.

    Gouging at it’s finest

  • Jack B.

    I remember when $50 Smartphone plans included 500MB minimum…

  • PumaYaYa

As the internet evolves, everything will become more data hungry… whether it’s games, widgets, apps, whatever. This 100MB either shows a great misunderstanding on Bell/Virgin’s part of how the internet works, or what’s more likely is that they know exactly that the data allowance sucks and they don’t care. Why the hell would the networks need to be faster in the first place? Because there’s more that you have to download. The speeds get faster but the caps get smaller? From an IT POV, doesn’t make sense at all.

This is just as frustrating as the days when I was downloading porn on 56K.

  • PumaYaYa

Makes no sense. The speeds get faster but the caps get smaller? The reason why the speeds have to be faster because the internet has evolved since 1996 and is filled with more that just pictures and text. There’s videos, games, install files, updates, patches, etc.

It’s so stupid to the point of absurdity. Yes let’s all have smartphones and tablets that do all these amazing things, but lets limit people through ridiculous data caps and over-inflated overage charges.

This is just a frustrating as porn on 56K.

  • Bb4everz

If virgin could only take their smartphone plans and combine that with canada wide calling minutes and 1gb they’d be laughing all the way to the bank.

  • vn33

Oh .. what a great plan ! sign me up ! *sarcasm*

For how long will these Carriers continue to insult the average Joe’s intelligence ? C’mon, even the most naive consumer must know they can go to the Web and compare plan/prices !!

These “news release” are become a bothersome distraction !!

  • dinmab

ok ? my current talk and text has all these features and i am paying 45$ a month if i use 100mb of data. who is the dude working on creating new plans for virgin ?

  • Zod

Virgin wasn’t too hard to talk into giving me free voicemail/call display when I bought my s2 last year.

I’m on the $55 dollar plan. (which I think is $60 now).

    200 anytime minutes
    weekends/evenings after 6pm
Favorite 10 (which pretty much cuts out any LD i would pay)
    1 gb Data
    Unlimited Texting
    Free Voicemail/Call Display

This new plan is $5 less. It only has 100mb data and no FAV 10? meh.

  • nick

    rip off…

  • rikin

RIP-OFF. I was offered a Bell plan at $50/month that included:

    - 250 day time minutes (so outdated)
    - Unlimited Incoming 24/7
    - 6PM Unlimited Outgoing
    - CD, VM, CF, CC, and CW
    - No government fees
    - No extortion fees
    - 6GB of data
    - Unlimited Canada wide text/pic messaging

Even with this deal, I told them that it’s a rip-off. Match it with Wind Mobile’s Holiday Miracle then I will sign up. lol

    • clue-in

go wind go! $27 apru! growing in more debt! yes! wind yes! you guys are awesome! damn it, im out of my zone, $1/mb.. crap this just cost me… oh well you guys are unlimited tho!*

      * wind zone is very small, beware of the away zone, or sos at the top of your screen to make sure no additional charges will apply – and dont worry if you try to call cx we will answer your call within 4 hours

  • lol

What? I pay half of that for the same features at other providers…

How exactly is this a promotion?

  • alex

lol. My gf has the same plan plus my10 for 35$. I have all of that plus my10 minus 100mb for 35.

    This is a joke.
