…I better be able to get the 6GB plan, or I am out of this Captivate and Rogers race. Finito.

AndroidVirgin: if you’re a current Rogers customer just add the 6GB plan now and upgrade to the captivate when it comes out.

funny, I signed up to get the emails from them, have not received one about it yet. Way to go Rogers, always on top of things.

I got the email saying they had updated their Captivate page. They’re obviously not going to send out an email saying “We’re training our staff internally to sell you this phone sometime in the future!” though, that’s just silly talk.

It says it holds ‘up to’ 32gbs. So does that mean it will only take a 16gb microSD card and not a 32gb card?

No no it can hold up to 32GB SD card and comes with 16GB internal so it holds a max of 48GB in total

So I called Rogers, inquiring about the 6GB Plan, and he informed me that it does indeed expire September 30th. I told him, Telus was offering something similar(which they are) at 6Gb with the additional 5Gb ontop of that single 1…Anywhoo,
He basically did not confirm the release date, nor deny it, just telling me it.. “… expires September 30th…” So that doesn’t really help me. I went over my 500MB plan in 2 days, 2 days – I get the rogers text “You’ve exceeded 80%” .. “100%” I can’t afford NOT to have the 6GB plan.
So for the love of god, PLEASE RELEASE IT SOON, AND BEFORE THE 30TH, and have Ample stock?
Thanks in Advance! LOL…(Hopefully)

Hello AndroidVirgin,
I agree that 500 Meg is way too little of data a month and unlimited should be the norm for ALL carriers but what exactly do you do on your phone that uses the 500 Meg in two days?

Seriously – 500mb in two days? A 6gb plan isn’t going to do you much better.
Is that with tethering, or what? Because I can’t imagine downloading 500mb worth of stuff in two days without it. Unless you spent all 2 days watching HD Youtube videos.

while the rogers captivate has 16gb internal memory, does it come with an SD card?

My understanding is that it doesn’t come with an SD card. Since it comes with 16gb internally, it doesn’t really need to come with one.

I got tired of waiting for the Galaxy S so gave in and bought a IPhone 4. But my plan was to add the 6G plan on the 30th whether I had the Galaxy S or not. Just so I wouldn’t lose out on the deal.

Rogers lost my account. Trust me, you’ll love the Bell version called the Vibrant. Front and rear facing cameras and a FM tuner to boot w/ a 6GB data plan.
Now I was on paygo with an old phone. I made the switch to Bell and not looking back!

Lol…it’s far too early to say that you’re not looking back and are extremely happy with your decision. Bell doesn’t have the greatest track record. Wait until your contract is up then tell us how you feel.
One huge downside of Bell’s network is that it is a single-layer network. That means you either have HSPA coverage, or you have no coverage. The benefit of Roger’s is that if you don’t have HSPA, you still have 2g GSM EDGE. This means larger overall coverage areas. It also means when one network crashes, you can fall back to the 2G network and still maintain connectivity, albeit at a slower speed.

I couldn’t have Rogers let me wait for the Captivate, so I sold my bold 9700, picked up the Samsung Vibrant brand new for $150, unlocked it to Rogers, got the 6gig data plan, good to go!

Wow, the Vibrant brand new, not on contract for $150? That’s impressive.

You can unlock Vibrant to Rogers, but you cannot use Vibrant on Rogers’ 3G network, as it needs other radio frequencies for HSDPA (3G). It will fall back into 2G as far as I know.
This works with AT&T’s Captivate as AT&T has the same 3G frequencies as Rogers.
Nobody will sell you Galaxy S for $150 as the market price is $500.

This captivate phone phone will be launched so late by that by then people will lose interest completely. Already dual core processor announced by samsung and LG phone will be coming in 4th quarter with this processor. Rogers — You snooze you lose….

There are dual core phones coming… But no way in hell are they coming in the 4th quarter, at least not to any Canadian carriers.

If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will never get anything.
Dual core wont hit Canada until I say at the VERY earliest, summer of 2011, they just made the processor, still have to decide what company to deal with, negotiations on price, supply, sample, i dont see it hit US until early 2011.

I didnt mean I want to wait for dual core phones. But why the heck Rogers is the last one to get Samsung galaxy S aka captivate, even bell got it already. This waiting game just sucks and getting unbearable. They dont even have pre-order get going.

I think that the parts that rogers have done horribly wrong are the following two things…
1) Sending out that stupid e-mail already telling me everything i already knew, minus the speculation of the front facing camera
2) After telling me things i already knew, i can almost, pre-order the phone…Seriously wtf? All i need is the release date, or the preorder date…

Well, considering they still have not sent out ANY emails regarding the iPad or iPhone 4, from similar signup pages, they’re already ahead of the game by sending out this email.
Now, as long as they send out an email when pre-orders ARE available, it’s a win all around.

For those who are worried about the 6 gig plan as far as I understand voice and data plans are individual contracts and as such can be entered into on there own . I had a 500 gig plan and upgraded to 6 gig mid contract and still was able to upgade my phone a month later. So if the captivate is not available before the 6gig offer expires just call and sighn up for the 6 gig plan early then get the phone when its released. just a thought .

To: Dwayne and Ryan.
I have NO IDEA, how I ever, ever hit more than 512!! Lol, with my last like.. 5 BlackBerry’s I never exceeded 400mb – ever(being the Data and such is compressed through RIM’s servers).
I wasn’t even using a high-powered device, just a used Nokia E71 to tide me over until the Captivate. But I guess I underestimated RIM’s compression abilities, and overestimated by ability to check e-mail, download a heap of apps and cycling mail-(no Push 30 increments)
Let me tell you – having an 80% reached at about 7 in the morning.. isn’t the best thing to wake up to(I am a noon person, LOL). So when an hour later I get the 100% mark I pulled the battery from my phone ASAP,..called Rogers and pulled my Monthly 512MB Subscription off my plan(I chose a monthly Data as I was ..(still) waiting on the Captivate and a 3 year renewal).
So.. honestly, if I can max 512 in 2 days.. I am sure 100+ more people can do it faster,
Let me just tell you.. Wifi? a BEAUTIFUL thing, ..Lmao, that’s all I have been running on my E71 ever since I removed the data.
So you can thumbs down my comment guys, but I really believe them not giving me(customers) the ability to take advantage of the 6GB is going to be a sore mistake.
Also – Bell,.. I love the option – but in Manitoba we have no Bell option, no Virgin… all we have is Rogers, Telus and MTS… so.. We’re SOL.

I’m not sure if I should get the “S” when it finally releases with Rogers or wait for the Galaxy S Pro (Epic 4G in the US) which is rumoured to hit Rogers in Q4. As much as I am wanting the “S”, its not having a flash for the camera is really a concern for me. I guess it’s a wait and see game now.

This is good new……….I think. I have been waiting in anticipation since the first comment back in early Aug that it was coming in the “coming weeks”, and still waiting. I signed up for the updates as soon as they came available, but my all time favorite update with the email i received telling me that i could pre-order in the coming days…………2 weeks ago……….Really?! Couldn’t you have just waited till there was actually a pre-order program to announce it, not just tease some other “upcoming” event?
All I’ve got to say is after waiting for this long, doing near daily google searches for any update, this phone had better be pretty damn impressive cuz my expectations are bloody high.

Socius,
So does the Vibrant support all the GSM bands like the captivate? Bell’s website doesn’t list any GSM frequencies.
If it does 850/900/1800/1900 then I’ll just go get the vibrant and run it on Rogers.
