The Canadian wireless drama continues today as RBC Capital Markets analyst Jonathan Allen states that Gobalive could be saved and might launch before Christmas.
There are a few caveats though. The National Post reports that Allen “told clients that a full $300-million contribution would allow Orascom to convert all its loans to equity and stay under the current 65% equity limit that the CRTC has already endorsed…However, if Globalive can find just another $150-million, this would give Orascom room to convert half the loans to equity. This would leave only $200-million in loans to syndicate third parties. The third party debt holders are not required to be Canadian.”
So, gather your friends, ping them on Twitter and Facebook and come up with the 150 million and bring more competition to Canada!

I’m sure if we send the money that was suppose to go to our Rogers bills for November we would have more than enough.

Are people still falling for this “increased competition” BS?
Do the math people, all business models offered by the new entrants
are driven to a buyout, not “providing Canadians with greater options” short term (12-24mos) that will be the case, sort of….
but when they go bankrupt, merge or get bought out by big blue, red or Green….where is your competition then
just my 2 cents

I’d rather have 12mo of WIND offering contract-free service, then having to switch back to Rogers after they get swallowed up, than NO month-to-month at all.

I love all the talk of increased competition these clowns keep talking about! Firstly, they have said no long term contracts – meaning no 3 year but yes they will have 1 and 2 year! Secondly, you want a Blackberry with no contract? That will be $600 dollars moron! Want to cough it up? Everyone thinks the upcoming plans will be excellent? They’ll be the same as everyone else. These clowns ignored the CRTC. Look at the CRTC’s website and you can see all correspondence between Globalive as they announce their intentions. They were told all along that they did not comply. Now they are Surprised!!!! Surprise!

It seems the Robelus has done it’s job with you. Another citizen that will roll over and pay whatever charge is thrown at them.
And maybe you should do a little research before you praise the CRTC. Industry Canada approved Globalive’s structure in the first place for one. And the CRTC can’t even follow it’s own precedence in regards to foreign ownership. Search for how AT&T (American owned) bought out Unitel in 1996.
WIND will launch it’s only a question of “when” not “if”.

An excellent article was written last week in the National Post reporting that Globalive (WIND) is financially backed by Yaser Arafat!! Isn’t that sweet? He was a wonderful loving man who invested his Palestinian followers money in Orascom. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling should they enter Canada and offer plans. I wonder if the phone boxes will have cute little suicide bombers on them?

I saw the article too.
1. Never have I seen so much fear mongering in one article about a man who died 5 YEARS AGO over a mobile phone company.
2. I looked for the article again after a few days later, and I couldn’t find it. Seems like even they found it to be too much.
Of course, you just believe that what the Big 3 tell you is truth, like when they say they have the best rates in the world or something, when places worldwide pay for dirt cheap rates while we’re still wondering why the hell we have to pay 15 cents to receive text messages. Ignorance is Strength for the Big 3, I guess.

It beats being owned by an Israeli.
They’d be 5 times as greedy as the big three, and they’d kick you out of your house!

I am leary of paying for a cell phone outright, most smartphones start @ $400 or more.
Too used to get a phone for free or reduced cost for service.
But with Telus if you lose or break a phone, my experience I had to buy the phone outright.
