The Apple iPhone is one of many new devices coming to TELUS when they launch their new network on November 5th. A large number of customers are looking forward to picking one of the models, either the 3G or 3GS version.
Unfortunately for those who live in Manitoba or Saskatchewan you will have to pick something else up as TELUS stated through an e-mail to customers who signed up to be updated with iPhone info that “Thank you for signing up for more information about the iPhone from TELUS. Unfortunately, the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will not be available in Manitoba and Saskatchewan at launch.”
We’ve reached out to TELUS and as the HSPA network is still being built-out, those who live in the Manitoba or Saskatchewan are (and North West Territories) will have access to their CDMA lineup… and in the future will have HSPA devices available to them.

Let’s not forget the fact that the advertised rates for handsets are only available to new subscribers. Existing customers are being left out in the cold with a $100-$150 credit.

there not being “left in the cold” its like that for ANY phone that telus releases, why would they offer better deals just for an iphone? doesnt make sense its just a smart phone like they have had for years.
why does every one think the Iphone has some special right in the market

It actually wasn’t directed at the iPhone. I had wanted to pick up an HTC Hero, it’s cheaper for me to pay out the last 10 months @ $20 and sign up on a new contract and get the phone at $99.00 (Total $300) versus taking a new 3 year contact for a $150.00 hardware credit (total 350.00).
Let’s not forget about adding insult to injury as anyone who has the unlimited email, web and chat for $15 a month won’t be allowed to carry that over to the new HSPA network. Sure I get it, but why am I going to stay with Telus again?
Frankly the best choice is to get an unlocked handset and jump to whatever network has the best rates.

Same reason Telus and Apple think the devices should have their own plans. If they want us to treat the device as a special device, we should too.

I’m in Winnipeg and can pick up the Telus/Bell 3G HSPA network on E71 and have been able to for a couple of months now.
