Apple has unveiled several new products, all coming to Canada. These devices include the HomePod Mini 2, the new Apple TV 4K, the new Home Collection with LG and Schneider, and the new HomeView.
The new HomeView is now available for pre-order and will release on November 13. Apple’s cool new device launches in Starlight, Space Grey, Silver, and Rose Pink, and can sit on a tabletop or be wall-mounted.
The HomeView costs $499; learn more here.
New Apple TV 4K
The new Apple TV 4K costs $429. Like most other Apple devices, you can use the new Siri AI and ask the Apple TV 4K, “Show me some documentaries with cute animals,” and the set-top box will show documentaries with cute animals. You can also ask it to “play that show my friend Mark texted me about,” and it’ll start playing that series — in our demo, it was Ted Lasso.
The new Apple TV 4K also has its own far-field microphones, meaning you can speak to Siri directly without pressing the Apple TV remote. The remote finally plays sound, so if you can’t find it, you can ask the Apple TV, “Hey Siri, where’s the remote?” and Siri Remote Find My will play the recognizable “Find My” jingle. It also has Precision Finding now, so you can locate it more easily.
The new Apple TV 4K is available for pre-order today and ships October 30.
HomePod Mini 2
Alongside the new Apple TV 4K and the HomeView, the Cupertino tech giant also unveiled the HomePod Mini 2. The smart speaker comes in green, blue, pink, space grey and silver. It also has Siri AI with access to broad world knowledge and personal context, so you can ask Siri to play a song you were talking to your friend, Danielle, about.
Lights will glow to match album art for some immersion. You can now use AirPlay from your iMac and set the HomePod Mini 2 as the default speaker for better sound. You can also pair them with another for surround sound, which is great if you use your iMac for gaming. You can also set up to four with the new Apple TV 4K for better surround sound, or pair them with two HomePods Gen 2s for even more immersion.
The HomePod Mini 2 costs $199 and is available for pre-order, with release on October 30.
Apple Home Collection
Apple has teamed up with LG for a new lineup of accessories. This includes a new Indoor Camera that can tilt down when you get home for privacy. A new Floodlight with Camera that lights up whenever someone walks by.
There’s also a new video doorbell that plays a chime through your HomeView or HomePods whenever someone rings your door, and has two cameras. Person-to-package: one camera points directly at incomers, and another points downward so you can see packages.
These three devices launch in November.
LG also has a new Smart Deadbolt Lock that unlocks when your iPhone or Apple Watch approaches the door. The Smart Deadbolt Lock works with up to six devices, but you can tap it to show the PIN code option. And I thought it was cool that you flip up the door lock to reveal a keyhole. Last but not least, the two companies revealed a new thermostat.
These devices launch in December.
