I’ve never used a dashcam before, but I figured I’d give one a shot once the opportunity to review Botslab’s G980H Multi-Channel Dashcam. And after using it for a few months, I’ve come away pretty pleased with the experience.
First and foremost: ease-of-use. Once the glut of initial downloads and updates were through and I’d seamlessly attached the device to the dash of my car, it was ready to go. I especially liked the G90H’s modularity, with additional magnetically-attached cameras and positioning options included depending on how much of your car and the roads you want to capture.
Next up: the specs. With 4K front and 1080p rear and two-sides video, it can provide crisp 560-degree views during both day and night. Having never used a dashcam before, I was honestly impressed at the high quality footage. And with the handy app, it made reviewing and downloading my footage even easier.
But most of all, I appreciate the peace of mind. I currently share a car with my mum, who drives around a lot for work, so it’s reassuring to know that we have this footage in case of any accidents. To that point, the G980H sports automatic pre-recording of eight seconds before an impact. Further, its 5.8GHz WiFi chip enables instant 4K video transfers to your phone if you need to make any emergency downloads. There’s even a 24/7 parking monitor in case you’re worried about burglars. (Given that this has been a rising issue in areas, including even a few incidents in my own, this is especially nice to have.)
In terms of negatives, my only issue with the Botslab G980H, really, is that the app, like some other products I’ve reviewed, contains some awkward English phrasing. Presumably, this is due to translation from Chinese languages, and while it’s not severe, it is certainly apparent. It’s also worth noting that there’s a bunch of AI “skills” you can add, like “human recognition” and “intelligent notifications.” These are optional, thankfully, because I personally don’t care for any of these features.
Overall, though, this was a smooth and satisfying dip into the world of dashcams. You can buy the Botslab G980H on Amazon for $299.99.
